Football GAMEDAY THREAD -- Penn State vs. Ohio State

Vital experience for Allar though. I hated it that Northwestern only had 20,000 people. To quiet to help for these types of games. Need the hostile environment experience. Hopefully they can pull through this one.
Agreed--this will only make Allar better and we can still win this.

The level of competition isn't relevent....the rules are sorry bud. I get it you like the taste of referee boots but I'll continue to call it out when undeniable penalties are ignored for one side and not for the other.
Just so I understand…did they miss a bunch of penalties on us too? Or have we played a really clean game, but OSU should have been called for an inordinate number of penalties?

It was a 3rd Down - and McCord was about to get sacked when the Official threw the flag on contact that they ignored throughout the game when PSU receivers were ridden.... The Official knows that Defensive Holding is an automatic 1st Down - if you watch the replay, McCord is running for his life toward sideline and is obviously about to get sacked when the Official throws the flag. It was a complete 3rd Down freebie 1st Down bailout by the joke b1g clowns yet again. To claim that play was called consistently with how PSU's Defensive Secondary has been called is ridiculous - btw, the reason they took so long to make the call is that the loser official was trying to claim PI, which is impossible when the ball was never thrown. The Ref had to tell him he needed to change his bailout bullshit call to Defensive Holding.
Bushy with the intel…lol

In my keys to the game posted earlier this week I noted that it was critical for Yurcich to call a game that would get Allar into a rhythm. Yurcich did not do that and we can see the result.

Allar looks flustered, isn't finding an open man, and has been making errant throws without planting his feet. Most plays he has had no check down. He's locking in to a receiver down field who isn't open and not finding the man running free.

That pre-snap crap needs to stop. Allar isn't relaxed and focused at the snap. This needs to change.

In the run game it's clear that Allen is the better back between the tackles. Singleton isn't bringing anything extra. I would get Potts in the game with Allen and open up a wide running threat. Instead we play it like short yardage and put a tight end back there. Doesn't fool anyone when most runs are between the tackles, and anything off tackle is slow to develop.

I think this is huge--him going up to the line pretending to take a snap under center than backing out isn't putting him in a spot to succeed. Ohio State isn't worried about it.

Well said--I think this is the key
Penn State in the first half averaged five yards per carry including 7.5 yards per carry from Nicholas Singleton. The Nittany Lions have shown the ability to move the ball on the ground but totaled just 12 carries between Singleton and Allen. Can Penn State take a bigger advantage of the Ohio State rushing attack in the second half?

This first drive of the second half is so huge…turnover or 3 and out and I’m feeling really good.

Franklin just screwed up that series. Just sneak on 3rd down. Can't make mistakes like that against Ohio St

And they wasted a timeout
A lot of momentum changed on that one play - when we could have had an easy first down to keep their defense on the field

We may need another defensive td in the 2nd half
Honestly, we’ve all seen this show before. Unless the PSU offense does a Jekyll and Hyde and suddenly comes out in the second half on fire, this game isn’t changing much. PSU will get the occasional FG. OSU will eventually right the ship and the PSU D will get gassed giving up some late score to put the game away. I hate to say it, but this is Groundhog Day when Penn St and Ohio St play.

What is really disappointing about this game is that, aside from the OSU's receivers and corners, this OSU team doesn't look particularly good. If PSU doesn't turn this around it will clearly be a missed opportunity.

Agree

He can run. But I know it’s live or die with drew
I get it. Allar still hasn't turned the ball over. We're down 4 on the road against Ohio State. We can still win with him plus this is huge for his development. Allar's going to be special. People just were expecting too much from him in his first start against a really good/great/elite team

This……

Likely concussion--helmet to helmet hit.

The OL wrapped his arms around Chop and dropped his helmet on him - it is not legal for an OL to effectively tackle a Defensive Rusher. OL is not allowed his hands/arms outside the shoulder, replay CLEARLY shows duhO$U OL wrapping his arms around Chop as he drops his helmet onto him - it was a BLATANTLY illegal block, no flag, go figure.

Fox crew roundly criticized our run call on 3rd and 5. As they should. Saying we need to let Allar air it out and take shots in the 2nd half.

And Urban laughed about it. Urban often mistakenly saying “we” when referring to OSU…yea he’s not biased.

He'd still be on the sideline for them if he didn't have so much trouble hanging over him. Opportunities must be less for tv announcers.

It's like expecting Lou Holtz to be unbiased. I don't. Urban usually has some good insights though.

So you don't have me on ignore. You're wrong but you typically are Bushy

they won't do it but Beau might be the guy to win this game...sure his downfield passing might not be great, but we don't have that now with Drew...so if we have no downfield passing game with Drew, what advantage is there with Drew, honestly.

Do you think he was purposely trying to hurt Chop?
