MSU Dual Discussion

He also makes the bizarre foresight assumption that everyone knew JG would struggle at this weight. I know about the fragility of his head, but did not see this.

On the other hand, that fragility can also lead to a run in the next few weeks....so......
From the Iowa Chief's PSU OSU story. Maybe we can get CP back up here to tell Jimmy to get his noggin removed from his dark side. Darn near worked against Ohio State.

It, whatever "it" is, is there within. It is a matter of finding it.

I did not wrestle for Tom Elling, but he and my father are friends. After losing a heart breaker in OT Tom sought me out and we had a short but tremendously insightful conversation.
Tom ask me why when I had my single in the air and my opponent had a mean quarter-nelson in did put the leg down. I answered I did not think I could finish the shot and I would just shoot again. He looked me square in the eye and said, "the guy who wins is the guy who is tough enough to just simply fight through the tough defense. A tough cross face, or your nelson situation - once you get here everybody is good and it is determined by who wins those tough guy moments."

During my adult life, when I have screwed things up just freaking royally and I need to get my head out of my a$$ and get things right. I fight like hell to win those tough guy moments. It works in life and it certainly works in wrestling.
Jimmy just needs to have a talk with and listen to his Tom Elling, and if I could arrange for that to happen for the kid I most certainly would.

My issue with your entire premise is whether intended or not I read the initial post and several follow up posts as side handed swipes at Zain for being selfish and choosing to wrestle the weight best for him, and in hindsight maybe not the best weight for the team. I think that is a whole hearted silly a$$ thought process. That's all.

JFC. You both have severe reading comprehension issues. Things I've said in this thread:

1. Zain probably better off at 149
2. Cael made the right decision to bump them up
3. Purely hindsight discussion

My comment was showing my frustration with Gulibon, who I believed was a sure AA at 141 before the season. Has nothing to do with Zain being selfish (he isn't) or Cael making a bad decision (he didn't). I'm sorry you can't follow along.

Conaway and Zain moved up a weight and they look dramatically bigger. 8 pounds on a small frame is noticeable. 8 pounds is one meal for me. Jimmy never looks as big as anyone he wrestles ,but neither does Nolf. Jimmy is predictable in what he is going to do. I am still in the "Q" camp.....the staff will have him ready when the time is right.

On the positive side, I think Morelli is the man moving forward. Beats the guys he should beat, hangs very tough with the guys ranked aheard of him and can bring it for the full 7.

Jimmy LOLibon

Questioning your intentions over this is fully justified:
The worst part is having to go through another year of Jimmy/Moss. Beitz at 149 would have been such an improvement. Can't fault Zain for doing what's best for him, though.

The 2nd quote is pretty bad on its own. The fact that you've had to backtrack it more than once should be a clue.

I really don't get the tone of your last pragraph especially the sense of entitlement it conveys (that a PSU wrestler has let you down). I've questioned how Jimmy will fair at 141 at B1Gs & NCAAs from the standpoint that the coaches face a tough decision especially given this weekend's results - I do not question that JG is giving it everything he has in both the practice room and in dual/tournament matches. You don't get as far as JG has gotten without a great work ethic and tremendous heart. The coaches asked him to move to 141 because they felt it was best for the team - JG deserves tremendous credit for that, I'm sure he's as frustrated as anyone, probably more, but I haven't heard him complain or reports of him being dissatisfied. Again, he deserves tremendous credit for that personally.

The comments about "getting money" in this thread are disgraceful and gross imho - as long as JG is working his butt off in practice and giving it his all, he is fulfilling his obligation to his athletic scholarship at PSU. I feel for JG, has to be extremely difficult for him after the success he had last year - he's been a good soldier and team player, which is not always easy in an individual sport such as wrestling.

Any comments I have made are more directed at what the coaches will do regarding 141 - they need to make their decision in light of what will give the team the greatest chance of success in the upcoming tournaments, not what any one individual wrestler wants. This weekend has given the coaches some very difficult decisions to make at both 41 & 65.

it is hard to say cause you want to compare his to the Coon's,Marsden's, etc. Which is good cause that means I've put him in the top tier already (in my mind). He has a nice single and finishes. Looks like he wants to do a lot - underhooks, wings, etc., but I'm not sure if this offense will be on par for the competition he is facing. My concern is that rust can lead to a mistake and it only takes one TD to decide a lot of hwt matches. He made a mistake in the Lehigh match on his shot and got taken down. Looked like he almost did the same last night but didn't pay the price.
to summ - he did great and he is a great addition. Hoping he can lose the rust or gain the match experience to wrestle with the big boys.

You can't fault Zain, and I haven't. You can read it however you like, but there's no snark behind it. I've never wanted him to go 141, and I have a posting history on themat forums that support that.

Can't say you haven't been warned, Lemon Pie.

Think before you post, or you will lose the rest of your shaky credibility around here.

They would have never got Jimmy if they were not giving him a lot of money. 4 time PA State Champ with i loss. Everyone in the country wanted him.

With only 9.9 'ships to distribute across a roster full of studs, I doubt anybody is getting "a lot" of money. In addition, while I am not privy as to who is getting what, I've been told the grants are reviewed on an annual basis (i.e., there are no long term promises). If anybody has information to the contrary, please share.

Haha. This is the most sensitive board I've ever encountered.

This board has a good history of not engaging in i) unnecessarily harsh bashing of our wrestlers, and ii) the type of in-house bickering that you have brought in the past few weeks. You'll obviously post however you darn well choose, but I'd suggest toning down both aspects of your posts in the future. You don't want to be considered the MK of the wrestling board (you're not him, are you?) :)

Love this, nitlion. I lived across the street from Tom for a number of years. A nicer man does not walk this Earth. And what a wrestling treasure he is.
