There should be a lot less drama this week, but here’s what I’m seeing for events on the ESPN & B1G networks . . .

Thursday
- Hofstra vs Brown (7pm) [ESPN+]

Friday
- NDSU vs Binghamtom (3:30pm) [ESPN+]
- Edinboro vs Binghamtom (5pm) [ESPN+]
- Glenville St vs WVU (7pm) [ESPN+]
- Army vs Rutger (7pm) [B1G+]

Saturday
- Navy vs Maryland (6pm) [B1G+]
- MSU vs Gardner-Webb (6pm) [ESPN+]
- NDSU vs Buffalo (7pm) [ESPN+]

Sunday
- Pitt vs OhioSt (1pm) [B1G+]
- WVU vs VMI (2pm) [ESPN+]

Not listed in OP..

OKST at OK on ESPN+ and also ESPNU I believe. 6pm.
Ok, so I waited later than usual this week to check and post the listings, and it now appears the Watch ESPN app still snuck in an extra bout after I did that. Seems like we have to keep checking and re-checking the listings to make sure we don’t miss anything. That makes me pissed.
😉

Good catch, and thanks! Hopefully I have a trophy tree harvested and dressed to my wife’s liking before 6pm.

Kharchla beat Wentzel 4-3, by the way.

I was kind of into Wentzel as a darkhorse last year, but man, I’m feeling like selling that stock. He made zero attempt at a takedown until the last 0:27, whcih of course was way too late. So content to just give up his legs and hang out with a crotch-lock to possible merkle all match long. It would drive me crazy as a coach.

Dead boring wrestling style. Some of the matches were interesting. Would not bother looking for more matches featuring Wentzel.

Yeah, he had nothing at all for Karchla.

Not sure how noteworthy, but Drake Ayala lost to Pat McKee 8-4 and Pat Kennedy only beat Minnesota backup 7-5. I think noteworthy because those are supposed to be Iowas next big studs after this crew of 8 seniors graduates.

I thought both showed really well to be honest with you. Close wins (no matter the opponent) and losses to ranked guys is expected with young guys like them. I think Kennedy will ultimately end up with a better career than Marinelli and think Ayala will be a beast.

Yeah Ayala losing to McKee isn’t a bad loss I don’t think. Definitely learned some things he needs to work on.

I think the only thing we learned about the Ayala loss is he isn’t necessarily ready to AA this year. So we can definitely rule out speculation that Iowa might feel they can win with him instead of Spencer. Think he’ll definitely be great but there might never be another Spencer.

PK will be fantastic for years to come. He’s pretty even with Bull though a lot of that might be room familiarity and Bull coming back from injury still. Think he would AA this year for sure. Regardless, he is a big talent and will essentially be double redshirted.

So you think Kennedy loses in the semi-finals on a regular basis?

They are training through ..... into....2022

Pitt was overmatched today while trying to wrestle in Columbus and the Sooners don't have much to offer the Cowboys.

Kharchla is obviously really good but he has a couple issues that need to be addressed if he wants to make the podium.

1. He let Wentzel escape with about 10 sec left in the period. Gotta do better on top than that in close matches against top competition.

2. He has some bottom issues that we saw vs Griffith and likely the reason he chose neutral in the third period vs Wentzel.

Nitpicking....I know but....

Hey hey, I think #2 was good coaching and learning from past mistakes Last time you instructed a wrestler to go under Wentzel, it didn't end very well ;)

mat wrestling is definitely his weakness but nobody should ever go underneath wentzel willingly. i wouldn’t judge him on that at all.

Looked like a couple swings in there.. It will be interesting to see how much attention it gets. I wonder what the beef was. Twitter war gone bad?
1 push. 1 swing. 1 takedown. Do you punish the 1 handed push or the fist-clenched punch? Or the takedown :)

Paddy Gallagher beat a Pitt backup 10-9 for 5th at the Cleveland State Open. Two backups from Indiana finished higher.

Mason Parris also wrestled at CSU, reached the finals (finals was a double forfeit).
