PSU vs. Penn Discussion Thread

Huh? Did he win or lose? The post prior to yours says it was 2nd time tonight "we gave up the takedown with less than 5 seconds to go".... Meredith's given up for a major and Edsell's for a DEC....
Edsel gave up a late takedown, which tied the bout. Edsel won in OT with a takedown of his own.

Edsell's only tied the match

Edsell was up in the 3rd and gave up TD in final 5 seconds to force OT. Edsell did a good job and got the TD in Ot for the win

for an unranked walk on, the expectation would be never. you're already getting bonus production from him.
All you have to do is read posts from earlier in the year to see that expectations were certainly way more than never. Just pointing out the facts…

Glad to see Carter with a bit of mush at the end after seeing incontrera work the knees heavy.

C* wins with a Major. He is getting closer and closer with those cradles. Just needs to keep working on his technique and he'll eventually start pinning with it.

184 - Ball vs Martinez

Ball almost w/ a TD, but M funks out.
Ball in deep again, elevates, trips for the TD, 2-0.
M dinged a point for illegal hold according to Byers (I missed what he did), 3-0.
Escape M, 3-1
TD Ball, 5-1
Period ends with a good scramble, Ball keeps control.
Ball takes bottom.
Escape, 6-1.
TD Ball, had back exposure, but M rolls out, 8-1
Now Ball gets backs, 10-1 as period end.
Martinez chooses bottom.
Ball cuts him, 10-2.
Ball in deep, Martinez crotch-lock, sits out, gets the TD, 10-4
Escape Ball, 11-4
Period ends 11-4.

He won....but gave up a TD with less than 5 seconds, and had to win it in OT. He got sloppy at the end.
Plus it was only a tie due to the riding time. If you looked at the clock when he got the TD you might assume he won, until they awarded the riding time point to tie it in regulation.

He may have the same tattoo as Isaiah Martinez but Jesse Martinez is no Isaiah Martinez

197 - Dean vs Urbas

Byers clarifies it is Max and not Gabe, lol.
A lot of ties and handfighting through first 2 mins.
TD Dean, 2-0.
Rides out the period.
Dean takes bottom.
Quick Escape, 3-0.
Stall warning on Urbas as Dean shoots. Dean in deep, gets the TD, 5-0.
Dean trying for B&A, then for cradle, but no dice. Period ends.
Urbas, bleeding from the mouth, takes TOP.
Eacape Dean, 6-0.
TD Dean, 8-0. 1:16 left on the clock.
Trying for B&A again.
Stalling, 9-0.
Period ends, RT makes it 10-0.

This ... the majority of kids in the Barraclough profile ... scrapping in duals and saving bonus points is often where they top out at. Anthony Cassar was the exception, not the rule. Plus Cassar was notoriously a late wrestler and thus had way more untapped potential. He also won Junior Nationals after his true freshman year, showing he was just a year late from blowing up as a recruit.

AC was a walk-on?

Barraclough was an unranked walk on guys who's only in his 3rd year at the program. Not sure what you guys are looking for from him. I know you want to see Joe Lee but he has his own issues right now obviously.

We all understand that. The angst isn't about Barraclough, it's more about why can't Joe Lee beat him out.

Speaking for myself, when TB won the spot my 1st thought was good for him, he must be pretty good. Now after watching TB manage just 2 escapes in 2 matches, my thoughts are, WTF, what's wrong with Joe Lee? Two years ago he looked like a sure-fire AA.

Forfeiting heavyweight. Thinking the PSFlu caught up with the program recently. Had hit football and soccer in recent weeks.
