I felt the same way. We had holes up and down the lineup. Have faith in our coach, but he has to really work his magic this year. With the lineup absences, starting to think Penn probably wins this dual.

Wait until they unveil warnerovAnd Warner debates are not far behind.
The Penn kid had to shoot to win since he let him up in 3rd and in SV . Beau strategy in SV would be to not be taken down for 30 seconds to win. Artalona has always been good, but he was gassed, first match back or not. Beau should shoot more and I think he will. The point of the response Beau's gas tank, not how he was on his feet. He has a great will to win.
Not sure what you mean by "let him up in SV"? SV is a Neutral-Only Period - First points scored wins. Did you mean the TB periods (didn't see match only know what I read on here... thought someone posted that BB won with a TD in SV.).
I was a little disappointed Bartlett did not initiate much offense because what he needs to be successful is there. However, Bartlett was the one taking ground and moving forward. The Penn kid wasn't taking anything more than half hearted shots, and Beau would chase him a circle as he retreated.and yet the Penn kid was the one with all the offensive attempts late in the 3rd and in OT. It was also the Penn kids first Bout coming back from injury (I was sitting with the father of a penn wrestler who I know). I think Bartlett was lucky to not have been warned
if that is the Bartlett we see all year at 149, it won’t result in many, if any points in March IMO
he won by a point as penn went optional start in the ride out period after BB held him down in first ride out
I have already postedA couple things can be correct at the same............
Beau looks strong in his lungs and his positioning.
The penn kid looked dogged tired from late 2nd into OT. Coming down from 157 and injury and flu and life...it just takes time. But I'll be watching for him to make the NC field.
Beau has offense we have seen it before. It didn't suddenly go away.
Beau could/should have been dinged as everything he seemed to do or want to do was off penn action.
We've seen many many wrestlers ride this thought process to glory as NC or AA. But it's not the psu way with cael. Which I'm sure Beau knows well. But at this point his coaches and he feel this strategy is best for him. I have no doubt cody is watching his film and they are talking about it.
Beau s dad and uncle wrestled at a high level. Beau was on the world team. Beau has wrestled the best as the best for years.
It's boring wrestling but I'm taking a chillax position with him.
157 not so much. I think he is who he is and if JLee can't figure that one out...well we ride with who we got and hope for the best. It is what it is. But bashing the poor kid all the time and there will be more of this through out the season is just silly. He may sneak up on a guy here or there but what we see is what we get. We'll embrace those wins but he is who he is. No point in harping on it.
We probably can't beat the squawks in a dual for sure and probably the NC but oh well. I just want competition and that means healthy kids through out the country.

Close - The Penn wrestler won the toss and picked bottom and Bartlett rode him the whole 30 seconds and then Bartlett chose bottom the Penn wrestler let him out immediately after the optional start. My guess is the Penn wrestler was obviously exhausted and thought his chances of a take down was better than a ride out in his fatigued condition so he went optional start and let Beau out immediately and the rest is history..Yea, that's the TB Period. The TB Periods come after SV. They are 30 seconds long.... a coin is flipped and the winner of the flip gets to choose Top, Bottom or Defer. Given what you are describing, it sounds like BB won the flip after SV ended tied and choose Top for first TB Period... After being ridden out, UP wrestler choose Optional Optional Start Position and to release Beau.
I have already posted

Will score enough to win the title.
This year 7 point scorers will be enough, plus we may have an 8th with Hildebrandt.
I mean we’re seeing first hand in Max Dean that some are just folk specialists, they love being on the mat. Rob Koll himself said on Baschamania, Max is NOT a good freestyler, said he gets lost in scrambles that can result in points in free and doesn’t realize it.and i think that’s a good example of how fans come to have unrealistic expectations. shoop was a surprise aa who is really good at one thing, tilts. he went on a heater at ncaas and turned guys left and right. any match that takes that out the equation is a poor measuring stick.
so you have two things: a folkstyle specialist and a guy who went on a run. he came back down to earth during the next season, but fans want to see what they want to see so instead of seeing “bearclaw beat a smaller tilt specialist who had a great tournament 2 years ago but has proven to be a 15ish type guy over the long term” they saw “bearclaw beat an all american. this must mean he’s an aa contender too”
Close - The Penn wrestler won the toss and picked bottom and Bartlett got out about halfway through. The Penn wrestler was obviously exhausted and thought his chances of a take down was better than a ride out in his fatigued condition so he went optional start and let Beau out immediately and the rest is history..
Beau rode him the whole 30. The Penn wrestler then allowed Beau to get up right at the beginning of the next period because he felt more confident trying to get a take down than riding Beau out. Bartlett‘s conditioning was phenomenal in the match. Totally wore down a guy who looked like a better wrestler for much of the match.Your first sentence has me more confused than less..... If Penn wrestler won toss and chose bottom, then Beau was on top and it couldn't possibly have been "...and Bartlett got out about halfway through." (i.e., the 2nd-half of your first sentence).

Your right, I worded that pretty confusing but fixed it above. Other posters have already pointed out that after the Penn wrestler picked bottom he was ridden out for the full 30 seconds and then Beau picked bottom for the second TB period and the Penn wrestler let him up after the optional start..Your first sentence has me more confused than less..... Some of this almost has to be intentional, but anyway:
Yes, TB periods, starting 3-3
Penn chose bottom. Beau rode him out. (still 3-3)
Beau chose bottom, Penn cut him (E1, 4-3) to go for the takedown instead of the rideout to keep it tied, didn't get it, Beau wins 4-3
I think it's agreed upon that Bartlett isn't super small for 149 anymore, he just doesn't have the reach for it, which limits his offense.I’ve often thought part of the reason our guys look so good at Nationals is that they tend to not be as big weight cutters as some others. I wonder if that will work to BB’s benefit when applicable this year and I wonder if last night was applicable.
Luke Pletcher didn't have much reach but he was pretty effective. I agree that certain attacks would be more difficult for Beau (like straight on doubles for example) but I think he'll adapt and find a way to be more aggressive offensively as the season goes on.I think it's agreed upon that Bartlett isn't super small for 149 anymore, he just doesn't have the reach for it, which limits his offense.
I think our guys are good at nationals because our coaches just know how to peak for it, both physically and mentally.
Like I said, Beau has 1 takedown in 3 wins this year against NQ level opponents. He's won twice due to savvy mat riding. He never panics, even when he gives up the first takedown (Artalona), gives up a minute plus of riding time (Crooks) or when he has a stall call going into SV (Ogunsanya)Luke Pletcher didn't have much reach but he was pretty effective. Ball was runner up at 195 not even 181. I dont think he was cutting any weight and was noticeably smaller than the champ from Northern York who was in the same district. Ball beat him once during the season. I dont recall when.Hindsight 20-20, hoping that a former PIAA runner up who trains with the PSU upper weight crew daily while being coached by Cael "just won't get bonused" might have been underselling him a bit.

I've always thought Beau was like a mini Cenzo out there from his mannerisms to his build.Like I said, Beau has 1 takedown in 3 wins this year against NQ level opponents. The kid has a Cenzo level coolness to him that I love. None of his matches against solid opponents will be pretty this year but there's a reason he's out there already as our 149 rather than in redshirt waiting to see if maybe Van Ness is a better option.
Especially when facing another team's backup.Hindsight 20-20, hoping that a former PIAA runner up who trains with the PSU upper weight crew daily while being coached by Cael "just won't get bonused" might have been underselling him a bit.
Ball went 0-4 vs. Swartz that year but all were very close: 6-4, 5-4, 10-9 TB, and 7-5 SV.Ball was runner up at 195 not even 181.
