Whisky V Iowa

Cassioppi with the first takedown, it's 2-0.
Now 2-1, end of 1st.

Escape Cassioppi in the 2nd, he's up 3-1.
Heading to 3.

Hillger with an early escape, bout now 3-2 Cass.
Ends there.
Not impressed by him either. Can't wait for cassar

You are failing to give Iowa the credit they deserve. That was an impressive display from them tonight.
Ok I'm impressed. To be honest I though Lee desanto bull kemmerer were impressive. Young was good the rest wrestled the way they normally do but winning is winning. Great job and team effort by iowa

I dont for a minute believe teaz can beat Desanto. That was practice room BS.
Cassioppi just a slight upgrade over a dancing bear.
Overall, Iowa looked good. DeSanto was really tough. The stuff about Teasdale beating him in the room is just a crock of s***.
Does this make DeSanto = Iowa Nico (without the finals or title)?

TEASDALE IS BEATING HIM IN THE ROOM !!!!

I’m a believer in this Iowa team if they can stay fresh throughout the season. Did enough to win all but one of the close ones, and were dominant in a few. Sebastian looked fairly healthy, which is nice for him. I thought he might lose an arm a couple times in the past in Evanston.

If they can stay fresh is big. Recently, Iowa peaks in January whereas Cael has the boys peaking in March.

I am not certain why it is so difficult for some on the board to say it.....…..Iowa looked good...….very good tonight. Cass is no dancing bear. Kem looks great at 174. Bull beat a tough wrestler. Murin beat a ranked guy and Lee and Desanto were....well.....Lee and Desanto. Going to be a tough out.

My god that's awful. That's even worse than the infamous Guy Fieri swimsuit, compounded by (1) DeSanto's age, (2) it doesn't fill out nearly as well.

Wouldn't want it any other way a tough out. And yes they looked good but I'm not doing back flips over an Iowa win. They have weaknesses like everyone else and the close matches tonight means a toss up in our dual I'll take that. And by the way Cassioppi is a dancing bear if the opponent is ranked this is what we will see and I'm liking that as well

Look, Iowa wrestled very well tonight without a doubt. Props to them. Lee will roll to another title with little trouble. DeSanto showed he can take anyone at 133. Kemerer will give Mark a run for the money. Bull can also beat anyone.
The flip side: Murin is just ok. Lugo remains very unimpressive. Wilcke just plain sucks. Warner is way overhyped. Cassioppi had a nice W tonight, but is no match for Cassar/Steveson.
So a tough team, for sure, but there are certainly holes.
We just need to be healthy in March and let Cael make the call about Conel/Beard.

Welcome to the board, Mike Evans.

PS, Hillger was a freshman All-American last year. That's a good win for Cassioppi.
The stalemate with Hilger on top was helpful.
Ignoring the earlier scramble reversal during the review was also helpful.
I thought overall the ref did a pretty solid job. At heavyweight he placed his fingers on the scale.

I need to see a healthy Berge at 157 before I agree with that statement.

Think Verk could give Lugo a good match at 149 but right now you'd have to favor Lugo. RBY vs DeSanto would be interesting but PSU would be definite underdog. Lee of course a big favorite at 125, but could potentially be a bit interesting if Teske can make it out of the first period.
Only way Teske could make that match interesting is someone else wrestles it.

Wilcke won’t be wrestling in March, Brands will. Agree with Murin being just ok. Lugo doesn’t need to win impressively, he just needs to win and 149 is wide open. Same thing at 197, you have Moore and everyone else. Cass doesn’t have to beat Cassar or Steveson (if he even wrestles). He could finish as high as third and with his pinning ability could rack up bonus early.

Great night for Iowa
But 141,149, 157and 184 aren't gaurunteedhigh high places at nationals.

Kaleb Young worries me although 57 isnt that stacked. Young isnt as decorated hs and fs as there other studs. Lost 7 matches last year and won 2 of his ncaa matches in ot1.

Murin wrestled with conviction but aside from that one slick TD he just collar tied and toughed it out.

Lee DeSanto Bull Kem will certainly place high
Hwt and 197 is a weak weight crapshoot this year
Penn state must improve too top us but im afraid they will be quite operational when March arrives.
Cant wait for Hall vs Kemerer

It is gonna be us and Iowa this year. Hawkeyes will be tough this year without our killer line-up from 157 up.

125 - We will get crushed bonus points for Iowa
133 - That DeSanto is a psycho. RBY will have to be very careful - adv Iowa
141 - Lee will crush Murcin. Bonus points for us.
149 - Trouble. Verk is all over the place. Lugo adv.
157 - I have never seen Berge wrestle but we have to give the advantage to Young
165 - What is the Bull's highest finish in the Tournament? 7th? Cenzo needs to wrestle his game and not rely on that inside trip it doesn't work against him. Make him go the distance and Canzo can beat him. Adv slim PSU.
174- Damn Kemmer looks good at174! Mark will have to be very careful!!! This will be his biggest test this year. Adv PSU
184 - Depends on which Rasheed shows up. He will kill Wilke but I have not seen Brands yet? I would still say we have the Adv PSU
197 - I thought Konel would be a killa. Hopefrully he can come around and become a beast again. I want Bo back!!! That Iowa kid is ripe for the pickingfrom a strong aggressive kid
HWT - That Iowa freshmen may look like a baby fat piggy, he is fine wrestler. We are talking Cassar though. The kid will be on his back quick against AC!!! PSU bonus points!

This is gonna be a tough dual to win unless we step it up at 149 and 157!!!!

A suggestion for how to think about Iowa and PSU this year:

PSU is a complete team and has a few guys who have a great shot at winning individual titles. Ditto for Iowa.

The PSU/Iowa dual will (accurately) be hyped as the dual of the decade. I hope both teams are full strength and we all get to see something special that night. I hope the winner of that dual is long remembered for their greatness as a team.

Of course the only thing that really matters is what happens in Minneapolis in March. Both fanbases have a reasonable expectation that their team will end up on top this year. Whichever team ends up on top will have the great honor of having won the title over a strong, bitter rival.

Hope you guys enjoy this season as much as I will. I love this sport and my team so damn much. I know that all of you love your team just as much.

Go Hawks.

I like you, please post here more often.

Wouldn't bet on it but Iowa having 10 All Americans this year is conceivable.

Would be the first time ever for us we had 9 several times under Gable.

Max Murin isn't great but he doesn't give up a lot of points and is difficult to bonus. Last season Nick Lee beat Murin 8-3 and 4-1. So I wouldn't necessarily expect Lee to "crush" Murin, and bonus isn't a sure thing either.

Horses. I think the difference come March will be the wrestlers each team has that’s likely to make the finals.

Iowa is looking good right now but still have about 3.5 months to go.

In terms of horses, I see Cenzo, Hall and Cassar as likely to make the finals and proven that they’ve done it before. With the way 141 looks this year I think N Lee could be a horse as well so that’s about 3.5 horses for PSU.

Iowa has Lee and possibly Kemerer as horses so 1.5. DeSanto looks great now and possibly a horse as well come March so bump that # up to 2. Young is highly ranked but not someone you can pencil-in for the finals. Marinelli hasn’t yet proven you can bet on him to make the finals at ncaas. All the other weights make Iowa nicely balanced and I think they beat PSU in the dual. That and Iowa tends to look good earlier on in the season while PSU tends to look better and better as the season goes on, I think that’ll be the difference in March.

Lmfao. These kids better start putting points up they are a long way from 150

Actually, they are not that far away. Based on current Intermat rankings they would score 135 points at NCAAs before adding in any bonus. Iowa is not only a legit threat to us right now IMHO they are the favorite, mainly because we have so many question marks due to injuries. It's going to be a fun and interesting season.

Iowa looked good, no doubt about it, however Nationals isn't wrestled in Carver on a Sunday night a few days after a major holiday with an emotional tribute involving one of their wrestlers on national television to follow. If history is any indication, a few of these results will be reversed down the road.

Iowa looked fantastic last night. Right now it's going to be a close race at NCAAs between Iowa and PSU. I wouldn't be shocked to see Iowa win a team title. I think Iowa probably has an advantage in a dual as well.

Cael will have this team prepared, though but give Iowa the credit they deserve. They look great.

All these Iowa compliments are making me nauseous. Enough of the friendly pats on the back, let's get back to the banter.:D
