Whisky V Iowa

Great night for Iowa
But 141,149, 157and 184 aren't gaurunteedhigh high places at nationals.

Kaleb Young worries me although 57 isnt that stacked. Young isnt as decorated hs and fs as there other studs. Lost 7 matches last year and won 2 of his ncaa matches in ot1.

Murin wrestled with conviction but aside from that one slick TD he just collar tied and toughed it out.

Lee DeSanto Bull Kem will certainly place high
Hwt and 197 is a weak weight crapshoot this year
Penn state must improve too top us but im afraid they will be quite operational when March arrives.
Cant wait for Hall vs Kemerer
So glad the marquee match-ups actually took place. That makes the duals so much more enjoyable to watch. IA kids looked very well conditioned. Hope all stay healthy to the end. It's going to be "fun" this year.

2021 is a lock. RBY and Lee redshirt, hopefully.
Would we have any upperclassmen in the lineup at all then? That would be very odd. Berge, I guess. Agree that the hawks will be a major force next year though with Eirerman coming in (and assuming Kemerer gets his extra year).

Does anyone know if Desanto has any Freestyle background? I could actually see him being very successful with that firemans and his ability to get guys to the edge.

OK--I think I'm done praising Iowa for now too....

Iowa looked fantastic last night. Right now it's going to be a close race at NCAAs between Iowa and PSU. I wouldn't be shocked to see Iowa win a team title. I think Iowa probably has an advantage in a dual as well.

Cael will have this team prepared, though but give Iowa the credit they deserve. They look great.
Recipe for success -- recruit well in Pennsylvania.

Honestly, it's okay to admit Iowa might be the favorite on paper right now. You can argue it's an OSU 2018 situation people where they gave them the title too soon but we aren't PSU 2018 right now either.
  • They look like they have 4 strong candidates to be finalists at least (Lee, ADS, Bull, KemDawg)
  • 3 returning AAs (Lugo, Young, Warner) Cass looks like a strong candidate to AA as a freshman
  • Honestly even Murin and Brands/Wilcke could AA with the right draw or good tournament
Luckily, the matches aren't wrestled on paper and you never know what happens in the tournament. All I know is Cael will know what we have to do to contend and get our guys ready.

The fact is this tournament will be closer to 2013, 2014, 2018 than 2016, 2017, 2019 but I'll be the first to say, those that come down to the wire are a lot more fun once you realize you won at the end of Saturday night.

BWI inside jokes would come across as stupid on HR.

And vice versa.
It would if you did not know, but you do and its funny. Just like predicting a Whisky upset!
You did not see any of us over on HR predicting an upset when Penn State wrestled Arizona State did you . Call out the guy that made the OP and I would not have to.

But is that the only tool in your bag?

And, no, it's not funny over here. Ha ha, someone misspelled "moron" on HR years ago and therefore it must remain funny everywhere, in perpetuity. Lame.

Yes, that kind of wild prediction would never have gone un-answered on HR.

And yet the constant accusations of cheating, PED use, Cael magically fixing seeding...those are fine I guess.

The difference for PSU this year is they don't have the bonus machines of the past 10 years. They have guys that will score but it isn't automatic like with Taylor, Ruth, Zain, Nolf and Nickel. It really changes the dynamic. It is ok not to score at 3 weights when you have three guys scoring enough points for six. This looks like a fun year to watch and see how things develop.

Ok the OP was idiotic is that better? I expect better even from you How is that!

You have no idea of the expectations we have for you and you are meeting none of them. We get the point Iowa getting upset was a stretch of all stretches let it go. Being wrong for such an oversight is punishment enough

Of course the OP's prediction was silly in retrospect but you only needed to look at the first two replies in the thread to see more even handed predictions. Why be incessant about it now?

I'm still trying to figure out why we should care or answer it. There are plenty of strange predictions. EVERYONE has an idea about who will win. Put 5 people in a room and you get at least 4 different answers. What is so important about that? For crying out loud, you should have heard what people were predicting for the Eagles this year (I was not one of them). I just laugh at the optimism (some would laugh at my pessimism at other times), but again, who really cares? Debate is supposed to be fun. Sometimes you are right, sometimes not.

As SS7 mentioned, far cry from "the constant accusations of cheating, PED use, Cael magically fixing seeding...those are fine I guess." I would add the true bitterness I see about PSU on HR that spills over to college kids. Why? If we lose, we lose, most here feel that way. Its just sports and college kids chasing their dreams. No hard feelings, and few begrudge Iowa its 23 championships or "hates" them as a result. I certainly don't. I have a hard time seeing how anyone can "hate" the Bull, Kem, Spencer (or Zain, Bo, Jason for that matter), etc, etc. Some great kids, great sportsmanship.

Do some people on this board "rub it in", troll, poke the bear? Yes, more than I like personally, but I don't see it being out of negativity, but mostly attempted humor (well, unless you count Pitt and Rutgers....;)).

Love to see our guys win, but at the end of the day....just fun either way, enjoying the ride.

Excellent point. I've never seen a guy get away with a crazy prediction on HR without being called out

My point is I did not hear anyone call the fool out for just being stupid. Fair is fair no?

Difference between a bit over the top crazy and just plain Stupid. Most of the BS On both boards is a bit overzealous. And then every once in a while a person needs to be called out by his own.

Right. The constant accusations are simply all in good fun and everyone knows that.

But someone saying Iowa would be upset in a Big Ten dual meet, well, that's just hurtful. And if we don't nip this in the bud, we'll have commenters just constantly predicting upsets.

Thanks for being the voice of reason.

"Overzealous" is a nice way of saying HR is devoid of any reason and is nothing more than a board littered with wild conspiracy theories and insane levels of jealousy.

If that's what you believe, then we'll police ourselves and you can police HR's copious drivel.

And every once in a while you post something worth while instead of useless dribble, but only once in a while.

Iowa looked good, no doubt about it, however Nationals isn't wrestled in Carver on a Sunday night a few days after a major holiday with an emotional tribute involving one of their wrestlers on national television to follow. If history is any indication, a few of these results will be reversed down the road.
Damn you twist that knife hard.

Well done. G/c

Friday night at NCAAs could be a real donnybrook.

By my guestimates the Hawks stand a good chance of putting 8 into the semis (all but 141 and 184). We stand a good chance of putting 7 in. (all but 125, 149 and 197)

I know Conel has a 3rd place finish on his resume, but he has't shown flashes of that form yet ... maybe with a little more time.

One area where we differ seems to be a belief that stupid usually speaks for/of/by itself well enough, and rarely needs help.

There's a subspecies of journalism that's based on finding a small handful of bad takes on Twitter (or wherever, but usually Twitter) and ascribing those bad takes to larger groups. The tactic generates far more responses than does accurately describing a group's general opinion on x, and though it's hardly journalism, the same tactic gets played out here and every other message board every day. There's no fix because the internet is economically incentivized by conflict more than agreement. But ignoring the bait goes a long way toward existing on the internet with any peace of mind. It's not that difficult to spot incendiary invitations, recognize where they'll inevitably lead, and just roll your eyes.

Stop...just stop. Over on HR you have bnicholls and Todd Connor that have made some assinine predictions. Not you or anyone else over there has called either of them out so please just stop.

Comedy gold. HR has a thread about Gross "trying" to injure Desanto's shoulder. I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm just saying the thread title should be named "KARMA".

I'm sure they took Desanto to task for trying to jump up on Seth's back like a cowboy :)

Yea......HR polices this brand of insanity on their board.

Every time some crazy fan predicted Iowa was going to win it all over the last 9 years, they waited a few months (until about late February), then called the person out by saying 'Wait till next year...'
