Question about our 85 scholarship limit

Do scholarship players lost for the entire season due to injury count against our 85 scholarship limit? (Example QB Smolik)

With the departures of Lambert-Smith and Meiga, we still appear to be 12 over over the limit at 97. To be honest, I'd be hard pressed to find 12 to cut. Some difficult decisions and discussions ahead. Anybody want to take a shot at what positions these departures are going to come from? I can see possibly 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, and 1 OL. From there it gets tough from where the cuts can come from on the defensive side..... possibly 1 DE, 1 DT, and 1 LB.

Askren's Trials Controversies

I thought Askren had some good thoughts on the two major controversies from this weekend.

1) MM-Burroughs - Askren essentially says that's who MM is, he loves to fight, he straddles the line, the head shove was well deserved, and that he's had to choke MM in practice many times to get him back in line. Overall, pretty funny discussion from one of the last people that could be accused of anti-MM bias.

Also interesting discussion about when MM started training with him and how one of the big issues he had was keeping his composure. Ben used to purposely try to get him mad so he could learn to control himself. Reminded me a lot of the process with
Desanto in the Iowa room.

2) The PSU fans - I agree with him on this too. When a crowd gets large, it doesn't behave rationally. It gets swept up in the emotions of the event and sometimes does things that nobody would ever think they'd do outside of that context. I don't think it's an accident that the two notoriously poorly behaved fan bases are Iowa and PSU, the two largest by far. Get everybody together and people get wild and those in the crowd who actually suck become more emboldened to misbehave.

Draft coverage

What is with the idiocy of showing people here at the draft and at games who look more like clowns than fans? I just don’t understand how a normal human being could embarrass themselves like that. I used to wonder about our “Big Uglies” until I read the article about them in BWI. I can’t believe these other people making asses and complete fools of themselves. Are they that desperate for attention?

OT Golf & Physics & how does launch monitor measure swing speed

I have a Swing Caddie 2 launch monitor, which among other things measures swing speed and ball speed. I was using it for my 5 wood and switched to my driver. But forgot to set it for my driver. I got a swing speed of 101 and a ball speed of 139 mph. (Distance for 5 wood was computed at 236 yards -- If driver had been plugged in the distance would have been about 255 to 265) The 101 swing speed was my highest of year. (Have had several 100 mph readings this year) I don't know why 101 swing speed wouldn't have been legitimate, but am checking just in case swing speed may have been inaccurate because I was using a driver and Swing Caddie thought I was using a 5 wood.
