Black Knight Invitational

165 Semifinal

4 Hubbard (CMU) vs 1 Facundo

Facundo with all the shots but nothing close to scoring. 0-0 after one. Stalling on Hubbard at whistle.

Hubbard chooses bottom. Very quick escape. 1-0 Hubbard. Back to Facundo shooting and Hubbard defending. Facundo now has a leg in air. Two stalling points for Facundo. Can’t finish as they go OOB. 2-1 after two.

Facundo quick escape. 2-1. Hubbard finally takes a shot. Defended. Facundo counters. Nothing. Facundo finally gets a TD. 5-2. Cuts him. In deep again. Finishes. 7-2. Cuts him. 7-3. That’s how it ends.

Munson just beat Ed Scott last week. That’s a great win by Barraclough. Interested to see him and Levi
Where did this pace come from with Facundo? Kid is getting after it and taking shot after shot. Not converting a high percentage but he’s putting so much pressure on that by the 3rd period he’s getting stall calls and he is getting tds. If he can continue to attack and wrestle at that pace he’s going to win a lot of matches

Watching the matches today I think this team has more depth than any I can remember. Maybe not all AA quality but solid wrestlers
It sure looks like we have NQ level guys backing up at 141, 157, 165, 184 and 197. Maybe a couple at 165. No one I would necessarily expect to score at nationals, but guys we’d feel good about if needed in a dual meet.

Edit: 174 too. Forgot about Kraeszig. Probably others I’m forgetting too. Good stuff!

Flipped to Dean match and it was 5-0 with guy laying on mat in pain. What happened?

Pain is almost guaranteed when wrestling Dean.
I wasn't watching but I think the guy got hurt bad on the first takedown by Max. Took injury time, Max took down, took him down again and that might have aggravated it. Hope the guy is okay.

An impression I got from Steen’s semifinal match is that he’s going to get better and better with each match. He might be one of those guys that goes to nationals with 12 losses and then makes the blood round.

Finishing the initial td the kid's knee got cranked, he Warnered (screamed). They taped it, Dean took down got an escape and another Td and went to his grinding ride and the kid was done. Sending the kid back out after injury was poorly thought out.

Yes MC,
That is what happened .

Predictions on the inter squad matches:

- They stop the Barraclough vs Haines match after 29 minutes of wrestling.

- Beau’s defense is too much for Evans. I like watching Evans wrestle, but he occasionally gets out of position on his aggressiveness. I think That plays into Beau’s strengths. 7-2 Beau.

- Facundo 9-3 over Matt Lee. Lee has looked great, but I’m guessing this is a room thing.
