Minnesota vs Rutgers

I feel like I fall into a trap every time I watch Rutgers wrestle.

They still feel like they are a top ten team, even though they lost, so far, to ## 1,2,7,13,14,19 and 25 (current Intermat rankings for dual meets). Their "signature" win is over Northwestern (#17). Their other wins are over currently unranked Maryland, Oklahoma, Virginia, North Carolina (by criteria after tying the match) and Hofstra.

News flash. *Still* not a top ten team. 6-7 as of the moment. I have serious doubts about them beating #20 Wisconsin on the road. Princeton, they should be ok.

I'll add that among the insanity of the preseason talk on the Rutgers board was that Rutgers might be a top 3 team this year with the powerhouse lineup they had. Yep, top 3 in NJ.

They might be, but assuming PSU and OSU are definitely 1 & 2 and if Lehigh is the 3rd best team how are you going to explain their inevitable EIWA runner-up finish to Cornell?

I have a strong feeling that is going to end this year, as long as Parker and Preisch stay healthy.

Thats cute but one of those guys along with his Family, friends and supporters are going to be miserable knowing their guy CAN Win a National Title this season and won't even compete. You only have 4 shots.

I said:
I think you are looking at it through Rutgers glasses. It's why Suriano was wrestling in a meaningless dual against Northwestern this weekend when he could have been wrestling in one of the best duals ever on Saturday night. It's a failure to understand basic stuff. Rutgers logic.

Maybe, but Koll seems to own Lehigh.
It should be an entertaining tournament. Maybe this is the year Lehigh steps up.

Uh, I think you got banned for the lifetime achievement award (i.e., death by 1000 cuts). The above post was just the last little cut.

There is and always will be a big fat "I" in Suriano. Chip on the shoulder

I’ve certainly had the same impression from the post match pressers I’ve seen of him at RU. Could this be a recent personality bloom? If not, makes me wonder why Cael ever thought he’d be a good fit at PSU.

Because he is tougher than nails, very talented, while on the mat he has zero quit and he (Cael) was pretty certain he (Suriano) would win multiple championships wearing the Blue singlet with the White stripe.

That double tap pat Cael laid on Nick's chest during the handshake wasn't a sign of "good riddance."

What we hope for is often what we get in return. I hope Suriano continues to mature and if the best, does win a title.

This^^. I don't recall fans having any problems with his attitude when he was winning matches for PSU.

Not a tough choice...D ;)
A. Kid commits to PSU, transfers and trashes the program on way out
B. Good kid who goes to rivals & gives them a 3" binder of PSU secrets
C. Another good kid, who unfortunately wrestles for The Evil Empire
D. Cruz to repeat

That was sort of my point. Did he exhibit the same kind of attitude when he was at PSU? I honestly don’t recall seeing an interview with him back then and thought of him as a quiet kid who was a total beast at 125, did all his talking on the mat, and who I wanted to succeed (still do). Hence my question about whether the attitude is new.

Suriano was probably just taking a "tan shirt" for the match to protect seed.

That's some DeLuca level eye poking.

Bingo. Go to another board and have nothing to add and you expect to be welcomed? Other PSU posters on that board typically have some interesting points to add.

Before you go off on one of your tirades I’m a Rutgers fan but also enjoy the banter here because it is informative. Fringe reader for the last 5 years but never felt compelled to post and always enjoyed the matches. Certainly not a Top 10 yet but I like the direction of the program.

Funny. I got banned from the RU board (by Phila Phans) for complaining to the mod about his announced censorship plan. Ironic but true. When I try to log in it says banned for spam. He is not only overly sensitive but also untruthful.

Actually Matter, you got banned for a lot of stuff, including, but not limited to saying things like our guy cheered hurting Nolf. In fact, most of your posts were just "Penn state rules, rutgers sucks" in different words most of the time.

So, as a RU fan, no, we don't think this team is a top 10 team anymore. A healthy Ashnault? Kicks us up a few notches. If Lewis STayed at 157 he probably wins the national title (kidding, just seeing who is paying attention), but its more than reasonable he AA's that weight.

Team looked better in September than it does in March.

And next year, when Goodale again says (as he has been doing for over 5 years) Rutgers feels like they are a top ten team (despite the loss of three of their more productive wrestlers), will the Rutgers board people say "enough already"?

VanBrill did do what was reported. Go back and read the thread and you'll see that I confirmed what someone else said about what they saw, because I did see it also. Before that, I hadn't said anything about it. And I'm not lying about it. Just because someone didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I watched it over and over. You're making things up. Just stop.

Watched it where? You're making that up most definitely. It was well away from the mat and any cameras, so you didn't watch it over and over, unless you recorded it on your phone. Post it and I'll believe it. I know what I saw.

Please stop. I have no way of comprehending how you make out how Van Brill briefly after coming off the mat acted as classless. Kids are sky high on adrenaline, he wrestled very well and his hand was raised for 6 points for his team in their biggest dual probably ever in front of a packed and rabid house. I have no expectation of him throwing a pity party for Jason at that moment and, knowing the little I know, am fairly sure he doesn't feel good about Jason being injured in the aftermath.

2nd hand, but pretty good information, and, yes, there are a couple of wrestlers on the RU squad who may revel in the "jersey tough" attitude and may not act as college students like we old guys would in their situation. I have had interactions with the Van Brill's father and briefly with the kids some time ago and I'm fairly sure that they are not among them. Usually the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and their dad was as nice and classy as they come.

There were a couple of things during the RU-PSU meet that you could be well critical of, and fault most likely lies at the top, which sets the example and tone for their team. 141 and 157, before, during or after the match was not among them.

Ok. VanBrill did what he did and it wasn't classless in your mind. I'm ok with that.
