Official PSU - Wisconsin 2021 Game Thread

Great win. Mertz sucks but we shot ourselves in foot many times. Just enought to pull out tough win. Week 1 issues on ST. Go State! ..and a big f&ck you to Klatt, Johnson and everyone of those idiots in Fox broadcast booth. Some people said that Klatt and Johnson were ok but they are bias anti-PSU trash, particaurly Joel. Could not even come up with positive on PSU w, just snickered and said we did enough.

Just a thought. They protect a running quarterback, who is not defenseless, where the first contact was with his shoulder and is able to see what is coming, but they give minimal protection to the player receiving a punt who is standing still and looking up in the air and has no idea what is happening around him. There is an incongruence with the rules if the point is to protect a defenseless player.

Wisconsin is going to have one of the better secondaries we will see. Unless they decide to double him, he isn't done. Leonard did what he had to. Take away the run and blitz. We also played turnover free.
Wiscy dared 14 to throw and sold out to stop the run between the tackles. Remember the key to Yurcich’s offense is to put the defense in conflict. I think that’s how 5 got open in the second half. More plays were run to create that conflict.

When I took a stress test a couple years ago, they got my heart rate up to the required number, whatever that was. But the Dr. monitoring me asked me if I could go higher. What? He was supposed to be the one that knew what my heart could take. If I knew I wouldn't have come to the hospital for the test to start with. He ramped me up further, then ended it. He left and I was then cooling down talking to the nurse, and she said he always does that. That Dr. must have been in charge of the officiating today.....o_Oo_Oo_O
I think I ran into the same Doc.

The D played lights out today. I have no issues with them.

I was responding to the comment about the offense.. As I said, if it wasn't for Wisc losing Dotson several times in coverage I don't know if they score.
But they did lose him maybe they saw something to exploit? Naw just dumb luck lol. I would say they played better in second half, it’s the first game. Can Franklin get credit for anything.... good?

Give them some time. I want impressed but this was a tall order. About as tough of an opener as we ever had and we won. We needed 11. They scored 16.

new coordinator. No time to work out the problems, and they won.
I'm certainly hoping the offense gets it together. It certainly helps if the D keeps this performance rolling.

Clifford and the O line don't even deserve participation trophies for today's performance.

Honestly, what do you want him to say?

Our offense was trash the bulk of the day. Saban himself has said that offense wins championships now in CFP.

Our defense bailed our team out big time today - it might be championship quality but we need an offense that can score, too.

Yep, he did not screw anything up to lose the game this week.

The OL was marginal at best. Clifford overthrew Dotson 3 times for TD and under threw another that would have been a TD. The OL allowed constant pressure and don’t run block at all. Good news is we have a few easy games to get things straight. One other note, WR looked lost in first half.

I thought it was a close call, even on replay. Helmets definitely hit but Brooks initiated contact with his shoulder.

I think the penalty was called because the hit was so violent. I can understand if the official got caught up with the impact and made the call, but the penalty was called on replay where emotion shouldn't be a factor.

Me tomorrow as I pass other PSU fans on the street…

This D could be Franklin’s best overall. If the O can even get a little bit better week to week, could be a fun season. Kudos to Coach Pry for having his players ready today. They gave up 10 points against 95 offensive plays…that’s unreal.

Also UNREAL is the FACT, yes FACT, that Franklin cannot get a 1st-down to salt a game away to save his soul!

UNREAL!!

The next play Curtis Jacobs makes will be the

Didn’t even review it to check for targeting, only reviewed the fumble. Meanwhile the wr is knocked out.
The main issue with the call I have is that the officials didn’t call it. The Wisky sideline and fans called it. Plus Metz went down on a knee and provided some theatrics to get the review and call. If he was so roughed up, why was Chryst putting a kid with a possible concussion back in the game?

The kid from Harvard needs to start.

Missed the OSU game - can someone post video of the similar plays?!

They actually weren't "similar" - the b1g Cheaters called no penalty (or Targetting Review) on a CLEARLY ILLEGAL hit on a "Protected Minnesota Player" (act of catching the ball) that knocked the Minny player unconscious! While creating a "Review" and Penalty at the request of Wisconsin on a LEGAL HIT against an "Unprotected" (under the rule) Wisconsin Player! Since the Wisconsin player was not "Protected" under the rule, the only "Targetting Penalty" that can be called in that situation is "Spearing" (intentionally using crown of helmet as weapon) - it is impossible to have "Spearing" if the Crown of the helmet isn't used to make first contact! The PSU defender CLEARLY makes "shoulder-to-shoulder" contact as first contact and his head bounces upward and he makes "incidental contact" with Wisconsin player's helmet with the front of his helmet - primarily his facemask. That hit was not "Spearing" (i.e., intentionally using the crown of your helmet) and anyone who says it was doesn't know squat about the rules (which includes the b1g cheaters!). You can't have Spearing when the intended, AND ACTUAL, first contact isn't with the crown of your helmet!!!

Fantastic win. It sucks to have to open the season with an opponent like Wisconsin on the road, but if you come away with the W, it can pay big dividends. Think Indiana last year in reverse. As much as anything, the value in this case is psychological: hey, we can actually win games like this.

Our D is For Real. Three potential All-Americans. On the other side of the ball, the O was horrible in the 1st half, but it was great to see Noah make some big plays in the 2nd half. Showed flashes of his 2019 form before the injury. And guys like Jahan can make QBs having a bad day look good.

The targeting call was bogus. But I've always felt like we'll at least get a fair shot with Jerry McGinn. He made the correct grounding call at the end that pretty much sealed the game. And total penalty calls ended up 7-7.

He morphed into Smith there. Wrap up and drive him into the sidelines. Probably his second worst play of the day (he ran out of the middle like he thought it was a pass earlier in the game after the announcers just lushed over his excellent play).

The kid from Harvard needs to start.

I was curious about people's thoughts. I did not pay much attention to the OL, and couldn't even see who was playing most of the time.

Our job is to b*tch and moan about our team. His job as a paid pro, is to give credit when a team wins. PSU won the game for a reason. He was clearly miffed that UW lost.
