POST-MATCH THREAD: PSU Beats Iowa

That’s what got me as well. I always was pro-Marinelli (except when wrestling Cenzo, ofc) but not after that match. I expect that behavior from ADS.

He kinda showed it after Karachla beat him last week. Was running his mouth afterward how he was gonna get him next time.
Meh. Those that know me know I'm not a fan of extracurricular behavior either. A better way to respond would be for our guy to get better and win on the mat. Not just this case, but every case where poor sportsmanship is exhibited.

Upon reflection, I'll say that Iowa ends up with ZERO individual national champions. Making it very hard to win the team title.

Not my favorite guy, but Marinelli may have the best chance.

I thought that was a class gesture as well. Probably the only one by the Iowa team. I was pissed as hell that Rivera was letting DB bags like DeSanto and Marinelli slap and aggressively push our wrestlers after the whistle constantly. There should have been points given to us for unsportsmanlike conduct. All our guys kicked ass and acted with class at all times.
It really pains me like one of kidtwists posts. I have to go take a shower.

Watched some clips this morning on big10 channel. They were going through the handshake line after the match and saw Eiereman shake Nick’s hand and gave him a hug. Thought that was a nice gesture.
I like Eiereman- I routed for him before he went to Iowa... seems like a class act, fun to watch wrestle - unless against Nick of course...

Congrats on winning round 1. It's no easy feat to leave Carver with a W. Your guys were up for the challenge, though.

My Hawks were right there in multiple matches, but just couldn't quite finish(again).

Not sure how to explain, but I am both optimistic AND pessimistic about being able to turn those into wins in March. In the end, my homerism wins out because being a pessimist is just the worst!

Great night of wrestling. Really glad that all the matchups(Ayala injury aside) actually happened.

Looking forward to rounds 2 and 3 in March.

If we watch carefully and are honest with ourselves, there are tons of great kids out there wrestling D1 and every other college division. I've always considered wrestling a gladiator sport that teaches life lessons like no other. Enter the ring, give it your best win-or-lose, then congratulate your opponent (again, win-or-lose). Go back to the room, get better and have another go later.

Beginning of year I said no more than one. After Spencer went down I began to think I over shot that one a bit.

Us too, I'm sure. Savoring a win like last evening is fleeting, or should be. Time to get back to work, as the prize for all the hard work is earned the third weekend in March. We'll see the Hawks in Lincoln!!

I can see that it could seem like rationalizing. I've heard Cael talk about wrestling a match in such a way that the opponent is mentally defeated before he steps on the mat against you again. I would think more scoring by RBY or just stifling Austin could fit that bill.
That's where I am as well. If RBY is really a level above ADS, he should just go out and show it. It also seems completely against the mindset/philosophy of the PSU staff to let the opponent hang around and eek out a 1 point decision.

So I have no idea why RBY wrestled that match the way he did, though a factor was that ADS never really gave RBY much chance to get on his offense. But I don't buy that RBY's match strategy was to just hang back and frustrate ADS. That seems like pure spin and is just too convenient.

That makes it something like every year except three in the last 10 years if you take away Spencer Lee (MMcD in 2012, DSJ in 2013 and Cory Clark in 2017). Even the Brands couldn't mess it up with Spencer.

In the meantime, PSU has wracked up 26 individual titles to Iowa's 6.

So maybe Kem was working the same mentality against CStar? Here I was think CStar looked great with all the attacks he was getting in on and just not finishing. Reality is Kem just setting him up for March.
Could be, accordingly to the prevailing theory on this board. The only difference is the fragility of psyche of the wrestlers in question.

I've come to realize that a significant amount of Hawkeye fans start calling for "Twoooo" even when there isn't action even close to an actual takedown. I don't know if they can't see the mat because of the size of CHA, trying to influence the ref for points, or if it's maybe a lack of knowledge what a takedown really is. They call themselves the best fan base, but really with the calls for "twoooo" when it isn't even close or the "whooo" thing when Cass is wrestling, what they've accomplished is most annoying fan base.
It was either yelling "twoooo" or raising their hands and calling for stalling against the other team's wrestlers when it was obviously not called for.

What I saw watching Iowa and it's fans last night at the "mecca of college wrestling" was just ridiculous. All the fake calls for takedowns and stalling were bad enough, but the water bottle being thrown just about says it all about those folks.

The post-match stuff was more of the same. Apparently, that incompetent ref only made bad calls against Iowa, all of the Penn State guys stalled and none of the Iowa guys did and (my favorite) that they won a "moral" victory because the team they put out there was depleted by injuries. Yeah, another special Iowa rule...no other team has to deal with injuries, illness, etc. Ahhh, it's a team sport, folks. Who you put on the mat is your team, not who you wish you could have put out there.

Nope, it’s Kemerer with the best shot. Carter has the slightest of edges, like if they wrestled 100 times, Carter wins 51 or 52. Kemerer winning wouldn’t shock me in the least. For Marinelli, 165 is just way too brutal at the top with several guys ahead of him right now.

I don’t think RBY is fully healthy
I agree with you. RBY allowed the same leg attack multiple times. RBY at 100% would have blocked or countered that move after AD's first attempt.

You forgot Ramos in 14, but point taken

What do you expect from the Children of the Corn! Here is a picture of young Tom Brands crucifying a parishioner who didn't like "Tough Wrestling"! They are classless!

Insiders on another board saying RBY at about 75% with lingering issues. Said he will be fine going forward. Would explain his wrestling last night.

It seemed like RBYs goal was to just hang out, take care of business, and have some fun frustrating ADS. Especially when he started playing toesies. I was rolling during that sequence. RBY is so in his head, and knows it. No need to show anything this round.
Nick knew eireman was bothered by messing with headgear,,it seemed.

Yeah, there were a couple of times I thought Nick could have taken advantage of the headgear adjustment, but he didn’t pull the trigger. I’m sure there will be consults from the Iowa camp on that subject going into B1Gs.

RBY played the role of Milton Berle -- he showed just enough to win.

Anyone else wonder if last night was the last time Nick Lee sees Eierman this season?

Meaning can Eierman beat Rivera at B10s? Legit question. Can't wait to see that match.

Though that wouldn't preclude Lee and Eierman being on the same side of the bracket at nationals. Don't look now, but Real Woods and Kizhan Clarke are both undefeated, and likely will be after the conference tourneys. B10 3rd place Eierman could feasibly be seeded 4th or 5th at nationals.
