Maryland dual thread - Sunday, 2/9

Aren’t they volunteers? If that’s true, I’d say be the change you wish to see in the world. Thankful for everyone willing to be involved in our underrepresented sport.
Yes and no. They’re comm students getting real life work experience. It’s more or less an internship situation, not just some randoms providing a broadcast.

157 - #1 Tyler Kasak VS #6 Ethen Miller

Period 1:
Circling & tying up. Kasak pushes forward. Kasak gets hit in the face or eye, stoppage & restart. Kasak tries a throw by to ankle pick, but no luck. Kasak looks for a 2 on 1, then drops to a leg, but no luck. Kasak pushes forward & has Miller on the edge. Kasak shoots, but Miller circles back in. Kasak with some snaps. Kasak drives Miller to the edge again, but Miller circles back to center. More circling & tying up to end the period. 0-0

Period 2:
Kasak takes down. He gets to his feet & gets the escape, 1-0. Kasak drives forward looking for a shot, but Miller fights him off. Miller gets hit with a stall warning. Miller shoots & gets deep in on a leg. He elevates the leg, but then Kasak gives him a limp leg & kicks free. Back to the tie up. Kasak shoots, but no luck. Kasak gets hit in the face, or runs into a knee during the shot & drops to the mat. The coaches & trainer are out tending to him now. Kasak took a pretty good shot to the head & has been taken off the match for concussion protocol. Kasak injury defaults. Yikes! That sucks! Let's hope Kasak heals up quickly.

Ethen Miller OVER Tyler Kasak (Injury Default, 4:21)

I approach this from a constructive criticism of the announcer. If you’re hoping for a career in broadcasting than you should take the time to do the basic things that broadcasters do. Learn to pronounce the athletes names. Do a little research on their backgrounds. Also make sure you know the sports terminology and rules. I’d think these kids would want to take advantage of the opportunity and develop their resume reals.

Honestly, listening to how poorly prepared these kids are for wrestling, it's frightening to think they'll be covering national affairs in a few years. I really liked the reference to the "Michelin" match.
