Next year?

Torn Labrum. I'm always amazed at all of the insiders over there who know nothing. He should be back but you know how shoulders go.
That sucks. I like watching that kid. He gets after it. When did that happen? Hopefully he and Robbie can both be healthy and have a few great battles in the coming years

PSU just won the title by 55 points and only lose 2 wrestlers.

Who are the dominate teams anymore ?

Ohio St has all of their hotshot recruits, but could they really flip a switch and push for 115+ points next year ? Can only 1 year of deadlifts and tanning beds span that gap?

Cornell loses Yianni.

Iowa loses what’s-his-face who kept getting tossed to his back.

Oklahoma State is in shambles.

Missouri could be stacked, but they tend to have kids over seeded for NCAAs and lose on Thursday.

Iowa State will have some horsepower.

Michigan has Parris and _______ ?

It may only take 95-100 points to win the team title next year, not the typical 125+
Paris was getting his ass whooped by Cassar in 2019. Then 2020, 2022 and 2023..

I was with many Iowa insiders at Nationals who tell me that Spencer is like Ayala’s big brother and loves him. The beef after the match was between Spencer and TNT for making them wrestle. Spencer was proving a point. Either way, they said all is repaired in that relationship but I can still imagine that some things aren’t always as they appear so I still don’t fully buy in to there being no issues there.
I believe that but I'm not sure Drake speaks very highly of Spencer regularly if his moms first thought was trashing Spencer after that. That being said, it's not about Spencer and Drake, the concern more is Drake apparently aggravated his shoulder again ... not unlike Robbie Howard. Feel for the kid, he is a super special talent.

Parris's development & improvement has been pretty impressive indeed.

That said, that effort Kerk put out there in the finals was the least 'inspiring' championship effort I have seen in a whille.

Just saying. I think Parris had surpassed him, this year, but that finals match was as much a surrender as domination.

This. I also don't believe Drake thinks very highly of Spencer as a mentor. Everybody admires Spencer's wrestling prowess, but it ends there for many of his peers. He didn't aggravate his shoulder unless by aggravate they mean he has another torn labrum. Spencer is done in any event and I hope Drake can get healthy because he is fun to watch. larry Lee can finally quit his side gig as a poacher, and Spencer can step in as the AD at the University of Iowa.

Do NOT sleep on Nebraska next year. Go look at their lineup.

Robb
Allred
Wilson/Condomitti
Lovett
Hardy
Pinto
Brown ton

For the record I agree with you both. Just repeating what was told to me by those very very close to the room.

I don’t know much but I think how Cael feels about punting in 2015 probably depends on the day, also after having to lose a covid year I don’t believe Cael wants to lose another year. We have a bunch of team first guys in the squad. You could literally run AB and Carter out for Big 10s and be okay

They lose 28 team points in Cronin and Labriola and add Lovett. Not sure who their new guys will be, but don't think that's enough.
Lovett wasn’t there this year, he red shirted so that replaces Labriolas points. Hardy will place higher, Robb will be in the mix, brown ton is a high ceiling guy who was 19-2 as a backup behind Labs. Allred and Pinto a year older. This team is going to be dangerous. The Cronin loss doesn’t help but outside of that they are reloaded!!!

The “punt year”:

- Nico and Zain shirted as non-freshman. AA Conaway and NQ Beitz started instead.
- True freshman Nolf shirted. Former 3rd placer D Alton started.
- True freshman Bo shirted. National champ Brown started.
- True freshman Nevills shirted. AA Lawson started.
- True freshman Shak shirted. He didn’t make the starting lineup the following season.

Aside from Nico and Zain, it might have been their best lineup for that year. Maybe Nolf would have been the better option at 157, but that was hardly an automatic choice.

Anyway, maybe we should expect 2023-2024 to resemble what Cael did (or wanted to do) with those planning to wrestle at the trials on the 2019-2020 team. And that plan, I believe, was to limit matches.

So if they have a great tournament they may make the podium.

Always appreciate your inside info and contributions. They're just stating what Ironside said and Ironside says too much sometimes apparently. Drake has been wrestling this year unbraced so he looks good but who knows what they do in that practice room all day and night.

Cornell will be good for sure. Shapiro should AA next year. Kid is incredible. Ungar and Cornella will keep improving. Foca is a finalist contender and Ramirez is good enough to be a high AA as well if he puts it together. Cardenas is a beast. I thought I heard that Fernandez might be done done but that could have just been internet rumor. That is a tough team

Mizzou will probably be even better next year as well. Zeke Seltzer should step in at 133 and Josh Edmond replacing Hart at 141. Both Elams, Keegan, Mauller, Mocco, Surtin, and Hawks are all back. 157 is the big question mark with Jacques graduating. They also have top recruit Clayton Whiting coming off redshirt at 184 who should challenge Hawks for the spot. On paper this is probably the second best team in the country but they never quite perform to seed at the national tournament
Is Vito definitely coming back? I th
Does Cornell lose anyone but Yianni next year? They have Shapiro coming in at Yiannis weight I believe he is the real deal. They didn’t have past AA Loew and HWT Fernandez in this years tourney due to injury. I think Cornell if they get Shapiro, Loew and Fernandez back in lineup and Mizzou has everyone back I believe would be 2 and 3 in country if we have everyone back
I don't believe the Ivy league schools allow grad students to wrestle? Isn't Vito graduating? There was a one time waiver when the season was cancelled a couple of years go, but not sure where Vito stands with that.

People who follow Cornell have posted that Vito wasn’t enrolled for a year and that he absolutely has 1 more year at Cornell.

Don't let that stop you. I say we write him in as our 33 pounder until something concrete proves otherwise. I mean, sure if Vito actually wrestles for Cornel in the EIWAs next March we can accept it. Until then just insist and hope.
Heck. I am still unsure what we are going to do about Levi's redshirt this year.

How does the Ohio State transfer (Bennancourt?) figue in to next year's plan?

I’m curious to see how much of a jump Northern Colorado makes from this year to next. You gotta imagine Troy Nickerson is going to be marketing the hell out of Alirez winning a national title when talking to recruits, especially local CO boys

So the decision of Nico and Zain to redshirt is what triggered the punt. Same thing could happen this year in regards to Brooks and Cstar.

He doesn’t
He's still showing as enrolled in the directory. I suspect the reason he couldn't practice or even be rostered this season had to with issues with his credits transferring making him academically ineligible. If he can work his way thru that, it couldn't hurt to have another 125-133 on the roster.

Next year we are punting. Sorry, it is what it is. AB and Carter are taking Olympic redshirts. Howard is injury prone and isn't wrestling again.
It's like you are tired of winning??? Even if you removed Starocci and Brooks out of the equation (which I don't think will happen) PSU still returns the most points. And yet you want to punt on 2nd and 2 for some reason?

Right, I’m more saying that I don’t see him as a qualifier level guy. So maybe he could serve as a backup or an ICE guy if Robbie gets hurt. Or maybe he takes a huge step forward. But that’s what it would likely take.

Was just going back thru some Big Boards..2017 Big Board was Fix, Spencer, Yianni and Vito. Helluva top 4.

2018 is sick too..1. Gable 2 Brooks 3 Parris 4 Sasso 5 Carr

Fix has another yr of eligibilty because he took 2 redshirts and a free year. How does Vito have another year? Did he greyshirt out of HS and then not enroll in 2021? I'm assuming that can be the only reason
