Match Thread Ohio State dual - Fri, Feb 2

We loved it when Bo would hit similar moves . So many college kids wrestle with a conservative and safe mindset. Pinners don't have any issues trying different moves. Bo even mentioned that "he was doing that move since he was a 10?"😏
Not a like for like comparison at all. Bo had that in his arsenal on topic of very, very good baseline wrestling. For Rogotke (at the moment) that *is* his entire arsenal.

I think Van Ness goes to 57
Uh, have you seen the rest of the lineup? SVN at 157 crates more problems than it solves.

Neither Levi nor Mesinbrink are 174s. Who is sitting because SVN bumps or Kasak doesn't use a shirt next year or manage his weight back down, Levi, Mesenbrink, Facundo, or Barr? I will grant you the fact that both Levi and Mesenbrink have redshirts, but I don't see either sitting when the youngest (Kasak) also has a shirt. To be honest I think there is an outside possibility Levi and Mesenbrink swap weights next year.

There is also the fact that Kasak started the year at 141. We all see the log jam before us, the most logical choices for Kasak are either redshirt or go back down to 141 and compete with Beau for the spot.

As troubling as it might seem, this isn't the first difficult choice the team will face over the next couple of years at several weights 125/133 comes to mind. In 2 years, there is little doubt Nagao will be facing either Davis or Lilledahl.

The more I see Tyler develop, and the more I try to project where he will be next year, I really think he has a legit shot at winning the 141 slot next year if he wants.

Only with our Lions can a 28-9 win feel humbling. Davis lost (I saw a TD) to an unranked but stronger kid and maybe learned to stay out of the upper-body stuff. Great test before meeting an angry, vengeful Ayala.
Nagao was ragdolled a bit by another stronger kid, but ferociously fought back (nice to see his inner wolverine).
Carter tired but hung on against an up-and-coming fireplug of a wrestler who puzzled Griffith as well.
Bernie looked great until, well . . .
Iowa’s own humbling was more devastating, though two different TB outcomes make theirs a 1-point loss. Like Michigan after losing to Bucks, the Hawks will be uber-motivated for redemption next week. I’ll bet some of our Lions will be, too.

Willie did say that a lot of people were sleeping on Carter. Cael saw something in him.
Carter had some interesting matches in PIAA tourney that didn't make him seem such a high level kid. But, that turned out to mean absolutely nothing.

I agree with this - disappointed with a 20 pt win only because our expectations are so high. But wrestling is hard, and things like a tough cut, a slight illness, an off day happen. Lack of activity from Davis was surprising, but we haven’t seen it before, so maybe an off night. Nagao, clearly now, has issues to address and I suspect he/coaches know what those issues are better than the rest of us. Mess might need to work on his bottom game, but maybe that kid was really good on top and he was clearly working to just hold on and not score points. I was actually encouraged by Bernie - his attack rate and energy was high and he was controlling the match - until he wasnt. All wrestlers get caught at times. Carter was clearly gassed in the 3rd period, but we all know he’s a beast.
First world problems.

Umm no. Carter was a specimen his entire career. Absolutely great genetics.

Please don't tell my wife this is "pudgy". He was a beast then, the whole world didn't know it yet. But our coaches did. Good for us.

Isn’t there also a chance that Beau is done after this season?

Psycho does not have a RS, he COULD have ORS this year. Build around him.

I think Alex will be looking for a new address.
According to Ex coach Karam ,Tyler was having tough cut to get to 141

OSU likes the upper body, stay away from that and you have them beat!oops we did crush them!

why don't any of these teams want to wrestle how many shots did Welsh take?how many total from both teams?

I believe he took bottom then Hepner took top. MM has to learn how to get out.
As I recall, MM had not one but two reversals against Hepner. Not bad against a guy known for being tough on top. Biggest problem was that after his second reversal, MM almost immediately got reversed himself. Not sure what MM was trying to do in that sequence.

I'm not either. And I don't think MM had a bad match. Just identified some things to clean up.

Was bittersweet seeing Sasso in the handshake line yesterday (Levi had some extra kind words for him you can tell), on one hand, great to see he seems to be in good spirits and he looks to be doing great in recovery overall, praying he can walk without that limp soon. On the other, hard to imagine him wrestling ever again. Miracles do happen though and if Alex Smith played football again, anything is possible.

You can critique Tom Ryan about many times (and we do lol) but one thing you can never ever take away from him is the fact he's there for his wrestlers no matter what. I think Sammy's journey in this sport is just beginning.

I was at a VT match a few weeks ago. Sammy’s bro wrestles for VT. After the match they have 4-5 wrestlers sit at tables to sign autographs for kids and engage in chitter chat with fans. One of our
Local HS assistants asked about Sammy and things got pretty misty. I got the impression that everyone is simply glad that Sammy is alive.

At the start of 125, Johnson stated that Davis and Kilkeary have history. Shortly later, Mackey said they were both PA state champs.

What were they talking about? Just out their rear ends or am I missing something?

I think people got confused since they wrestled at PWC. Davis was representing Michigan, Kilkeary PA. My tongue in cheek joke about this being a makeup call comes from the fact Davis had the leg up in the 3rd and Kilkeary countered using a super illegal cutback to get the TD and 2NF to win 5-2.

Now that you say that, I think video of that made the rounds.

Holy Sheep Dip. Woods gets pined! Beau is now No 1!
Makes me wonder if he's 100% healthy. If memory serves, he sat out a match or two not too long ago. No one seemed overly concerned, but don't recall seeing any real explanation either.
