Penn State - Ohio State Dual Thread

My thoughts on tonight (trying not to repeat what's already been said too much):
- First of all, an incredible win! I thought from the outset that it probably wasn't a good idea to end at 285 and give World Champion Snyder the ability to close the dual. I know PSU usually starts at 125 but I just had that scenario of him dominating to take the win home for OSU. Shows what the hell I know!
- I hated to see Nick Lee lose and I have no doubt he hated it more. I still question why they had him cut McKenna early in the 3rd rather than try to ride him long enough to eliminate the riding time point. But giving up that late TD in the 2nd really hurt.
- Not to take anything away from Nevills because it was an epic performance, but Snyder looked gassed. It was obvious to me that all of the travel caught up with him. I mean he was only 12 time zones away in 20-30 below zero temps and wrestling the best Russians in the world, just a week ago.
- Huge performance by Kuhn. Showed lots of guts!
- I can't imagine how a final choice between Rasheed and Cassar is made. Rasheed has been so impressive, but Cassar came out and beat the #1 guy in the nation and basically won this dual for PSU. How do you tell that guy he can't wrestle in the post season?

HR and the Hawkeyes are next. That match will probably be 30-12.... without Nolf! And they think they are having a great year. Did you see the graphic on projected tournament points? PSU and OSU at 120.5 and Iowa at 77. They continue to regress.... but next year is the year.

Bo and Cassar won that for the team.
One point victory.
Kuhn wrestles his ass off and saves a minimum of 1 point.
Zain has a pretty decent wrestler who was obviously trained to limit the damage and he gets the tech.
Bo Pipher gets teched, but not pinned.
Cenzo nearly splatters Campbell's insides across the mat getting that last TD for a major.
Hall stones BoJo.
Bo ends up rag dolling Martin for end of match 2NF and a major.
Cassar takes out number 1 ranked 197 and there was nothing fluky about it.
Nick Nevillis scores 2 TDs, damn near sticks and gasses Captain America.

Damn near impossible to give credit to any one or two kids. Tonight's victory was one earned by all of them.

Freaking outstanding!

Entire post was well thought out ... but holy hell this line was funny in a lot of ways.

Yeah, tonight he was as bad or worse than the Brands are. The refs need to brush up on the rules regarding control of the mat because Ryan and I believe it was Jaggers should have been penalized team points MULTIPLE times.
I can’t ever recall Tom directing anger at his wrestlers like that. Maybe I’m totally off base but he seriously looked like he was going to lose it a few times and if there weren’t nearly 7000 people there to witness it that he may have lost control and laid hands on someone. I’ll rewatch the match tomorrow but I seriously felt uncomfortable seeing the anger on his face as he screamed at his kids. I hope I’m not being unfair, maybe I am but he really seemed to be borderline psychotic at times.

Not knocking Snyder. My Captain America was not used in sarcasm. He is THE MAN. It's Gibbons and all his tOSU bias tonight. Losing Nolf was a 10-11 point swing. For PSU to do what they did tonight is amazing. tOSU choked and PSU made them pay. Hat's off to P S U
I do not believe OSU choked at all. Penn State took it away from them. Penn State is made up of a bunch of tough MFers, they give not a inch and oh yeah they do have fun!

Specifically in the Campbell and Moore matches he was on the verge of snapping. Not a great look for him.

HR is losing their shit right now. They cannot believe PSU pulled this one out. Watching them foam at the mouth over this is almost as good as watching PSU win the dual.

Said it before, but the delusion and bitterness on HR is unmatchable and makes that board damn hilarious. Tonight, it's bitterness, in spades. Most entertaining.

My guess is Tommy is bright enough to not touch any of his wrestlers in anger. There isn't a kid in his lineup who wouldn't break Tom in half and it would only require a couple of seconds.

Context. Great job by Nevills, but Snyder needed to win by 13 points to pull out the dual for tOSU. That's a tall order, even for him. The one lift he tried was ill-advised and led to an easy TD for Nevills. Again, nice job by Nevills, but it wasn't a normal match for Snyder.

Bruce, I believe Snyder needed "only" a major, or 8-point win. That would have made the team score 18-18 and OSU wins the match on criterion.

Snyder may have altered his style somewhat to try for the major, but his usual strategy is repeated takedowns anyhow. Credit to Nevills, and huge credit to the guys before him who put PSU out to a 4-point team lead.

I can't add much to what has already been said. I thought we were in big trouble after the Lee loss, but, you can't ever count this team out.

One of the best dual meets I've ever seen!

Talk about two totally different coaches styles. Tom goes crazy about everything and Cael is almost always calm and assertive.
There was a time or two tonight where Cael was a bit more animated than usual.
Cael is a true Penn Stater. Beating Ohio State, no matter what, is always a very positive experience.

Technical fall last year.
Context is the match was on the line and Snyder simply had to repeat something he has already accomplished. Nevillis needed to toughen up and accomplish something he has never done before, wrestle Captain America tough and give nothing. They each knew what they needed to do. Hat is off to Nick for he is the one who did what he needed to do.

Nope. Tim Johnson and BTN were wrong about that. Shocking, I know.

The first few tie-breaking criteria (number of matches won, number of pins/defaults, etc) were all pushes after a Snyder win. The next tie-breaking criterion was number of match points. After 197, PSU had 84 match points to 72 for tOSU. Thus Snyder needed to win by 13 points for tOSU to win the dual.

That was covered earlier, Snyder needed a major but had to win by 13 points in order for OSU to win the tiebreaker.... total match points.

Nope. Was a MD (19-9) for Snyder over Nevills on 3 Feb 2017. Dominating win for Snyder, but not a TF.
