Penn State - Ohio State Dual Thread

Nolf was dancing after the match, looked in good spirits, I take that as a positive for him wrestling at nationals.

I wouldn't draw anything (positive, negative, neutral) whatsoever from Nolf's little post-match jig.

So many great performances.

Kuhn going toe to toe with NaTo for a period, effectively staving off a TF. Keener keeping it close to Pletcher.

Nick Lee showing that he's right there with McKenna. Fine to work on your bottom game now, even in a dual like this, but I imagine coaches are directing things differently come tournament time.

Zain pounding Hayes from 4-1, reminiscent of his teching Micah last year after going down early.

Pipher not getting pinned despite being way out of his league.

Cenzo dominating Campbell and getting the major.

Hall's sweet duck on BoJo, coming from behind and laughing as the clock ran down.

Nickal getting a late major on MyMar, with how MyMar has looked all year, was beyond huge.

Cassar. Geez. Second best wrestler in Penn State's room beat the number one wrestler in the country.

Nick going out and getting takedowns on Snyder. Huge jump in levels from the last time they met. Should do wonders for his confidence.

I heard that Tom Tan forgot the Pin Chain in his haste to catch the train. That’s probably the only thing that saved us because that is what motivates his team.

That is an f'ing incredible first post.

I'm literally yelling to my wife about how insane Hall's duck under for 2 was, then how ridiculous Nickal's major win performance was against a fellow undefeated former national champion, then how completely absurd Cassar's performance was against an undefeated #1....but then I tell her we have to avoid a major loss against the #1, undefeated, US Olympic member...and she warns me that work Monday morning here in C-Bus is likely to be unpleasant. I remind her who WE ARE. And with a loss as impressive as losses can come, Nevills reminds Mrs. Wbcincy that we are THE Pennsylvania State University, and they are merely AN Ohio State University.

My girlfriend (who is very new to the sport) was incredibly confused when I was going nuts over Kuhn and Nevills losing. 7 mins was not long enough to explain criteria. Lol

That was incredible. Bo getting the NF at the buzzer did it.
Not just the swipes -- Bo also got a takedown at the very end of a period.

If he isn't looking to score for the full 2-3 minutes of each period, against a returning national champion, we lose.

Big time guys perform at their best in big situations. Bo big-timed Martin.

Kuhn's neutral offense really impressed me, I don't know that I've ever seen Nato get taken down 3 times in one period.
I don't think Nico has ever taken Tomasello down in college or freestyle.

Not saying Kuhn is at Nico's level. Just a little perspective on taking down Nato.

If Kuhn's conditioning is good enough for B10s, then he will qualify for nationals, and he's capable of winning 1-2 matches there with a decent draw.

No reason to give him coaching advice, we want him to continue to shyte the bed. This one is going to give him nightmares for many years.

Ohio State went all in, the special bus, the robes, Captain America with the twitter rant...looks like they put to much pressure on themselves and crumbled. Much to be said for maintaining the same routine, I think that is the approach some bald guy coach takes.
When they walked out in the robes my wife said they look like Illuminati priests. Cael put a hex on them.

Bizarre moment of the telecast: Gibbons and Johnson are hyping the battle of the nation's top two teams when out of the blue Shane Sparks throws in "And don't forget about Iowa at #3..." Huh????

LOL at that as well! And the graphic showef them 50 pts below both PSU and OSU.

All the "old-timers" pine on some level for the good old days, when the unquestioned ruler of the wrestling world was Iowa. It's in their DNA...

Kuhn acquitted himself pretty well, but I think a couple of his TDs were because NATO was trying to score big bonus and got sloppy. Also no one has had a chance to scout Kuhn.

Pletcher is simply not much of a bonus guy. Closer matches are his MO and it's effective for him.

Lee did enough to win, but giving the TD late in the 2nd period changed the match. McKenna was effective at stalling without making it look like blatant stalling. The decision to cut McKenna almost immediately in the 3rd period was questionable, but I get it.

Can't really give props to Pipher for allowing a very easy TF, but agree he was out of his league.

Cenzo, very workmanlike job, but expected.

Great job by the last four guys in the lineup against very tough opponents. Caesar's win was huge, obviously.

Overall, an amazing dual meet. Going in, thought PSU's chances of winning without Nolf were well < 50%.

When fresh his attacks on his feet are very high level, that's without question. It's going to be a tall order getting into tournament shape in a month especially from where he's currently at, but if he can the sky's the limit.
This, plus his draw will be important. If he qualifies, he will be unseeded. There are some top 16 guys he can beat, and maybe some top 8 guys -- so with the right draw, he can reach the quarters, then 1 more win gets him on the podium.

Hopefully today's performance, something similar vs. Lee, plus a win over Buffalo is enough to get him seeded 13th at B10s ahead of Jimenez -- because that projects as an easier draw in both the opening round and in consolations.

Holy sheeeet! I refused to check the board during the dual. When I got home, I went right to the DVR, and watched the dual. I'm so, so glad that I didn't know in advance how each match played out.

What drama. What an amazing effort by our guys. What an absolutely incredible dual.

Tan Tom was ... his usual self. I'll leave it at that.

I could not be prouder of our coaches, of our wrestlers, and the fans. Rec Hall was packed to the gills, and the noise the fans generated came through loud and clear on the BTN telecast.

We Are ...

- B1G regular season champ
- still undefeated in a dual this season
- able to beat you so so many different ways

... Penn State!!!!
