Southern Scuffle Thread

OkSt putting their entire lineup into the Semis sure won't help the "keep the shirt on" crowd...

Nope. That's for sure. Once people start doing the math and factoring in the points lost by keeping the shirt on, some will wish the shirt was pulled.

Of course, those who support redshirts over championships, they'll be fine with it.

Pretty sure that he hasn't made any decision at this point. Hall could have his redshirt pulled.

While it is certainly nice that people are jumping on board and screaming how they don't want his shirt pulled, it might be the same kind of nice and respectful, if they support Cael, if and when he pulls the shirt. Support all decisions, not just your own.
Cael has set a precedent regarding pulling of shirts, and he has stated that Hall is not likely to have his shirt pulled. The people that are not in favor of having his shirt pulled are currently supporting the precedent and Cael's statements, unlike those that are calling for the shirt to be pulled.

So, you are telling us that we aren't being supportive, if Cael does decide to pull the shirt? What? You are the one that isn't being supportive of how Cael has shown he wants to run his team. So, it might be kind of nice and respectful of you to support the way Cael wants to run the team.

If Cael does decide to pull the shirt, by all means, I'll be supportive.

It's a message board. The last time I checked the Gestapo does not oversee it. Spyker and I have takes, you have a take, and others have a take. Young Guns WC just gave his take, that also differs from your take.

The "bad look" is suppressing opposing viewpoints, that's facism.
That's something I can agree to

(1) They are not polls.
(2) The rankings do not account for bonus points.
(3) Kent is not necessarily the best measuring stick for guaranteeing a national championship.
(4) It's January 1st.

1. No they don't account for bonus. That means Iowa and Oklahoma State's bonus points will ALSO not be accounted for
2. Rasheed vs Kent, who you got?
3. Morelli vs Kent, who you got?
4. Hall is ready, and numerous posters on this board also feel this way. This has been posted by 4 others, already.

I'm sure Cael will decide without input from this board. Hall does need to work on the mat. If you think about it, he dominated but was a simple mistake away in the second period from a tie score after seemingly dominating. He certainly can go toe to toe with anyone on his feet. Man, he looks real comfortable...

Those who feel his shirt should be pulled, are not "being unsupportive" of Cael. Jesus, get a grip.

I don't think Shakur or Geno would win the Scuffle if they were there. If Mark Hall wins the Scuffle then I think it's clear that he is the best 174lber we have in the room. Whether or not that makes a difference is up to Cael. But it's certainly possible that our best 174lber may not see the mat this year outside of unattached.

I usually don't enter into these debates, but I've been fighting with an obstinate one year old all night, so I guess I'm just in the mood. There is a difference between stating an opinion (which despite my alleged fascist tendencies, I do believe everyone is entitled to) and posting the same thing multiple times anywhere the 174 weight class is mentioned. It just grows old. Anyone who hasn't already blocked you understands your position completely.

No one prefers keeping a redshirt on to a championship. Some like myself may just feel they can win it without Hall in the lineup. Although to be honest, my thinking in that may be changing slightly or at least I think the gap between us and them is smaller than I originally believed.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath. Kent came out of nowhere last year to place 4th at NCAA - he had 9 loses and many of them came at the hands of guys not ranked in top 10. I see 3 very clear areas Hall needs to focus on 1) bottom - he needs to be able to go down and get his escape - tilted earlier in year and avoided choosing bottom against Kent 2) top - hasnt really shown offense from top position 3) needs to get bigger - he's undersized at 74 right now. With that said - 174 is wide open this year. he can definitely place high but not a LOCK to beat BoJo, Valencia,

I have seen nothing to convince me that Morelli or Rasheed cannot AA this year. If either of them has AA potential, the shirt should stay on. Okie and Iowa's bonus points will not equal ours or close to it.

The last couple pages of this thread feel like everyone's fighting with an obstinate 1-yo.

Nice paragraph. You contradict yourself immediately after the first three sentences, lmao.

He already beat Valencia twice and now is even better...He and our Bo are back and forth in the room and Bo is bigger....Gotta pull it....IMO FOR SURE...

From your original post, "...it might be the same kind of nice and respectful, if they support Cael, if and when he pulls the shirt...." So, the "don't" camp will be unsupportive, if the shirt is pulled, but you're not being unsupportive by arguing the "do" side? You can't have it both ways.

Cael can change his plans any time right up until the end of the regular season. I remember back in the 90's when Gable waited until the end of the season to start Lincoln McIlravy and he won the NCAA tournament with one of the best finals matches ever.

Who says he's not ready? Not one person has said that. What most people (a number greater that your "numerous" sample of 4) are saying is that, based on the current outlook, PSU doesn't need a national champion at 174 to win the team title. And until Cael thinks that, we have no reason to call for a replacement at 174.

I'm supporting who the coaches put on the mat. Shame on me.

Why can't 21Guns support Cael's decision to redshirt Mark Hall?

21 - Why are you being so unsupportive of Cael's plan?

Why can't you be supportive of the idea of pulling the shirt.

I'll come to you first after the shirt is pulled, fully expecting support for the decision.

We may not get much at 33 41 and 74,,,That is 3 out of 10 weight classes...one third of the line up....

You're certainly not supporting Mark Hall, if that's what Cael and Mark decide to do, so yeah, shame on you for that.

If you haven't figured it out already, it's only OK for 21Guns to disagree with how Cael runs the program. As long as Cael is running it how 21Guns thinks he should run it, then everyone who disagrees is wrong for not supporting Cael.

21Guns is the only person who is allowed to disagree with Cael Sanderson.

We are 11-1 against outside competition at 174. I know we haven't wrestled the top guys there yet, but I have faith we can win the NC with either one.

Also, I'm not giving up on Cortez either. First of all Parker is a tough kid. 2nd, I believe Cael said Cortez was injured early in the match.

Even if Hall pins Preisch and Ramos/Crutchmer tomorrow I remain Team Keep Yer Shirt On, but I'm not sure Casey Kent is the test you'd want to base that decision on, as I'm not convinced he's a 3rd best guy at this weight. Not sure Crutchmer or Ramos are either. I think BoJo, Zahid, Epperly, Realbuto all beat Kent (Kent beat both Epperly and Realbuto last year but lost rematches to both). Still, Hall made it look pretty easy.

I said on another thread that I think the decision has more to do with Rasheed & Geno than Hall, because of the three, Hall is the known quantity. I think that if you like either Rasheed or Geno to AA, you keep Hall shirted.

Both Spyker and Young Guns have already supported the redshirt being pulled. That's 3, and counting. LP claims "he's ready". That's 4.

Hall kills them in the room though from what i saw......I don't think it's a hard decision at all....He just gotta keep it going tomorrow....Who does he have at 12 ?

LMAO. You're so hung up on redshirts, Marky could beat Gable, Schalles, Cael, and Mark Schultz back to back to back to back and you'd be claiming none of them are "all that" haha.

And also

Why do you hope that? If that's what Cael wants, why wouldn't you want that too?

If Cael wants Mark Hall to redshirt, why wouldn't you want that, too? These are your words. You advocate that if Cael wants it then why wouldn't everybody want it? Yet here you are, telling us that Mark Hall needs to have his redshirt pulled despite Cael deciding to redshirt.

I'll reiterate what I said before. Your logic is a one way street.

I think Cael will rightly delay any decision regarding Mark Hall until he sees how the current PSU lineup does against our B1G competition, particularly Iowa and tOSU. Nebraska this coming weekend will also be an early indicator. If we end up undefeated in the B1G, I think Cael doesn't pull Mark's shirt

Mark Hall has a scuffle thread. Anything interesting happening on the mat or should we just wait until noon tomorrow before we eat any more of our own?
