PSU - Michigan Dual Thread

Well.... Not horrible. Michigan has been sitting at home for over a month waiting for this dual. PSU on the road again after the Scuffle. These guys will have better days.

Agree. I suspect UM has had this dual circled on the calendar for some time. UM has a strong lineup and gave it their best shot. Overall, not a bad night for PSU, despite the close matches at 157, 174, and 184. And, Lord, I enjoyed the pain and pin at 149.

Ohio State is going to be tough. But McKenna did not look good tonight. Was majored by Thorn. Wanzek also handled Campbell. Nick Lee can conceivably beat McKenna if he is on his game. If the 5 National Champs can all win and get some bonus, then it will be up to Lee to pull off the upset or for 125, 133, and 285 to limit the losses. At this point, Shakur has a reasonable shot against Kolin Moore who also did not wrestle well tonight (winning 7-4 against a Minnesota guy, Stevenson, with a losing record). Moore sometimes wrestles really well and other times he just kind of shows up.

I have to think that guy’s a plant. He’s constantly trying to bait you guys. Seems way too obvious.

I don't know about that but just annoying asf...least he isn't pushing his self-help book anymore. Ends everything with a ! But yea, he does throw the fishing line out quite a bit.

Surprised By that...Zain deystroyed Panteleo multiple times...pinned him twice I think after running the bow & arrow several times...
Pinned him all 3 times he faced him in 15-16 and in a different period in dual, bigs and ncaa.

My impressions..flat out awesome dual. Michigan came to wrestle and brought it EVERY match.

Our guys didn’t bring the energy Michigan did and still came out on top.

Cenzo is just studly this year. It looked as if he were a weight class bigger than Massa and I never felt Massa had anything for him.

I give Zain a lot of credit for not punching that kid in the face with some of his antics. Put the pin on at the end was nice.

I feel bad for the next opponents for Bo and Jason. Another ref and Bo possibly loses to that guy. Jason will go back to basics a little more instead of always looking for 6 pt moves. He can take people apart from neutral and I think the weak early season competition didn’t have him ready for a game opponent. Not worried about either of these 2 beasts.

Welcome Nick Lee! Nice first match. I felt he gassed some due to being nervous, first time in singlet much like Hall last year at Iowa. He’ll bonus that kid next time

Hall. Not a fan of him keeping the matches this close. He is always in control but I’d like to see him get some more separation which he has more than enough talent.

Shak-what can I say? From 3rd string to a guy I look forward to watching every time out. I truly don’t see Moore as this unbeatable #1 and I can’t wait to see that match.

Keener..right now a solid wrestler. Will beat guys ranked below and lose to higher ranked. Maybe get 1 win at NCA’s

Nevills.. right now he needs to get his mind right and start wrestling like he knows how. I am a little concerned here but have confidence the coaches will straighten him out

Hopefully schnupp can get a win vs MSU as it will most likely be his last match

I agree Bo looked off last night, and that he gave up a TD more than once in the third; puzzled by no UM challenge.

Can we talk about how nasty that duck was in the first though? Love how he and Wreck teach each other their stuff.

Looks like Cenzo widened the gap against Massa. Could've been the injury, but I'm sure the coach wouldn't put him out there if he wasn't 100%. And why would Massa set himself up for the inside trip multiple times during the match??? Will Imar have the stones to work his underhook against Cenzo?

With a few exceptions (Zain, Cenzo, Lee) we basically wrestled our C - match while scUM wrestled their A+ match and we won by 13 on the road.
Nick Lee is only going to improve over these next 2 months or so and he handled a top 20 kid with relative ease.
WE ARE!!!

This was a very good dual. Michigan is shaping up to be as good as advertised this year. They are building a nice program.

I'll give my assessment of the PSU Cheaters (HR Trademark pending).

125 - Schnupp has some real heart. The kid leaves it all on the mat every match. He doesn't win, but he represents the school as well as anyone. Good grit.

133 - Keener is what we thought he was. He's going to bonus the lower tier 133 guys but he's not going to challenge the top of the weight class. I'm expecting a 2-2 finish in March.

141 - Nick Lee is certainly impressive. He's a TRFR and he will be an NCAA champ one day. It's going to be fun watching him wrestle for the next four years.

149 - Brtual.

157 - The match was never in doubt but Patenleo is good. Nolf will have more for him next time.

165 - Joseph is on another level compared to Massa this year. His defense is just crazy. You can't score on VJ with those hips.

174 - I feel like Mark is trying to improve his game this year by working on riding guys. I thought he could have cut him and worked him from neutral more but it seems like he wants to work on his top game this year, which is becoming really, really good.

184 - Bo got the call, or should I say "no call" tonight. It wasn't his best match, but his guy is very good.

197 - Shak is awesome. I'm all in on him.

HWT - Nick fell off a cliff the last few weeks. Clear gap between him and Coon.

Michigan was all-in for this match, with the red-shirting of all those guys last year and Massa returning to their lineup. They were ready to ambush PSU last night, even though PS didn't wrestle great, they did wrestle well enough to come through with a nice W. It looked to me like Jason and Hall wanted to work on their top game against quality competition, almost looked like it was a controlled workout, IDK.. Bo is like watching a hi-wire act and Zain is such a beast, he's setting the bar so high for the future, we're so spoiled as fans. Cenzo just looks so relaxed and confident. I'm just glad we'll see them wrestle again tomorrow :)

Great opportunity to see where they are, away from home against a very talented opponent. And we won 25-12!! What more could a fan want, for now?

The guys aren't finished improving, and we'll continue to learn about this team through the brutal January schedule (Scuffle and 3 consecutive double-dual weekends). Can't spend a second worrying about the other teams, too focused on those in Blue and White.

Keep cheering, stay positive...WE ARE!!

The guy in the front row wearing the yellow shirt calling for stalling on Nolf while Alec laid down can go home. He jumps out of his seat like something bit him.

He reminded me of that .......Maryland person, although not as bad. That person is the worst I have seen.

Thought we did well overall, not really disappointed at all tbh. I feel really confident that Nick Lee can beat Joey McKenna after seeing Tommy Thorn pick him apart.

Jeff Cook is not the best official out there, but he is better than the guy who did the OSU Minnesota match.

with all the crap the BTN puts on its schedule, is needs to account for bball to last 2.5 hours.... the last 2 minutes of a bbal game takes longer the the entire 9th inning!

Don't look now, but there is a women's hoops game on before the Iowa/OSU match tomorrow. Don't they have a tendency to last longer than the men's? God I hate basketball.

You can watch matches scheduled on BTN from the beginning on BTN2go for free.

Really respect Massa for going out there. Little Amine got what he deserved. Pantaleo — will be interesting to see him against Kemerer and Jordan. Could help us in the team race, but I think Kemerer is the #2. Seriously afraid Stoll may flatten NN. Wish Mark could have finished the mixer - few are safe from it (can’t imagine Jordan falling into it). He and D Lewis would be a great match. Lee showed some jitters, but great showing anyway. I think Bo thought he could score if ‘Nader got in but didn’t finish clean, and sort of underestimated things.

Even LP gave PSU's performance a "not horrible" rating -- so, positive vibes all around! ;)

Don't you have to give Michigan some credit. Not like the guys Nolf and Bo and Hall were wrestling were unranked wrestlers, they were Top 5 guys. I think sometimes fans expect those guys to tech fall and pin everybody.

Nolf wrestled a great match, the guy he was wrestling was huge and a very good defensive wrestler. Nolf knew a TD was going to be tough and the potential for a counter TD was real. So he rides the guy out in the 3rd. I think that ride out in the 3rd was just about as impressive as you can get considering Nolf is not considered much of top wrestler.

Bo got a little lucky, but those calls were close, not like a horrible bad call by the ref, just didn't give the TD because Bo still was holding on. Not sure why Bo wasn't more active, but seems like the last two years Bo occasionally has a bad match once in a while. Good to get that out of the way now versus later.

I think Hidlay will challenge Kemerer for that second spot.
Pantaleo is built like a tank. I thought Jason should have gone to that snap down where he can even put IMar's nose on the mat and used it multiple times to sap some gas out of the tank.
I suppose if he wrestles to score he could beat Jordan, I just don't think so.
You and I agree on Stoll. Stoll has been wrestling like an angry young man this year. If Nick shows up with similar urgency and energy Nick will be in trouble.

I think most have been giving Michigan credit. They came to win (to give their best effort at least). I especially give props to Massa for taking on Joseph for his first match back. I agree with you about Nolf. That was an impressive ride out.
