Iowa dual thread - Jan 31

OK I just got finished reading the comments on this thread after the match was over. I didn't want to be distracted while everything was happening.

jmadden and is - you guys seemed a little more chippy than usual tonight. I get it. You were expecting more of a battle from your Hawks. To be honest, so was I. That was a real beatdown. If you guys wanted to stir up the Penn State fans, you missed your chance after the PSU vs Notre Dame game. Most of us are also football fans and we were pretty much in the same mood afterwards. The one difference there was that we lost a game that we had a good chance to win.

It's a sickness. I'd be enjoying how historically dominant my team is performing.
The problem with winning so much is you can't just enjoy it. I came away from tonight feeling that we underperformed by giving up 8 points and just missing some bonus points at other weights and CStar not getting a takedown. Cael needs to tighten the screws a bit before Big Tens.

125 - #9 Luke Lilledahl VS #23 Joey Cruz

Period 1:
Here we go! Straight to the tie up. Luke pushes forward. Cruz tries some snaps, but Luke keeps coming. Cruz drops to a leg. Luke counters & gets a leg. He elevates it & drags Cruz to the mat, 3-0. Luke has Cruz on his back with a Navy ride, but doesn't get enough swipes for back points. Cruz gets the escape without much resistance, 3-1. Back to the tie up. Luke pushes forward again. Luke reaches for a low leg, but can't get there. Cruz shoots, but no luck. Stoppage & Luke has a thumb problem. Injury time for Luke. Back to action. Cruz takes down on the restart. Caution & restart. Cruz gets to his feet, but Luke brings him back to the mat. Cruz gets to his feet again, but Luke brings him back to the mat again. Out of bounds & restart. Cruz is still down. He gets to a quadpod, but Luke is riding heavy & brings him back to his base. Cruz gets to a quadpod again, but Luke brings him back down. Luke goes over 1-min riding time. Luke is putting on a hard ride. Cruz gets to his feet, but they're on the edge & go out of bounds. My TV feed cuts out & I'm running into another room to turn on a different TV.

Period 2:
Luke takes down & gets a quick escape, 4-1. Luke has +1:38 RT. Circling, Cruz shoots, Luke counters & gets a leg. He shelves the leg & reaches behind for the other ankle & gets another TD, 7-1. Stoppage & restart Cruz is still down. Luke with a hard ride & goes over 2-min riding time. Luke has Cruz bellied out. Cruz gets back to one foot, but then Luke gets him bellied out again. Luke with a hard cross body ride. Luke rides out the period. 7-1 Luke, +2:44 RT

Period 3:
Cruz takes down. Luke gives up the escape, 7-2. Luke quickly in on a far ankle for another TD, 10-2. Luke cuts Cruz, 10-3. Luke with another TD, 13-3. Luke cuts Cruz, 13-4. Luke back in on another TD, 16-4. Luke has a chicken wing & locks up RT. Luke cuts Cruz, 16-5. Out of bounds, stalling on Cruz, restart. Luke shoots, but no luck, then again for another TD, 19-5. Luke cuts, 19-6, then drops back in on another shot. Cruz is hanging on to a leg, but Luke gets behind for the TD & TECH, 22-6

Luke Lilledahl TECH Joey Cruz 22-6 (6:43)

Team Score

PSU: 5
IOWA: 0
You’re an amazing story teller and PBP specialist. Did you have any obstacles on your post 1st period jaunt? You didn’t seem gassed but did that take anything away from experience? How many wife and kid-free rooms do you possess for us?

Thank you!

Yeah, replying to every post on an opps message board, trying to shame posters that even dared bring up Gabe's non activity after he decided to tough talk to the media is really something.

You run your mouth as a public figure to journalists, you're going to get discussed, it's that simple.

Also, I know exactly who needs to hear this, but here, you can simultaneously enjoy a big win and discuss a big talkers inactivity. You don't have to choose one or the other.

He’s got legit offense too. Didn’t finish, but how many guys have ever gotten to Starocci’s legs like tonight? Kemerer in the first match maybe?
Wrestling on a knee and in reverse allowed him to get under Carter's hands a little. I have to believe adjustments will make his preferred technique less effective as he goes. Ferarri 's flexibility will always serve him well.

Don't get down on Barr guys. 2 seconds totally changed that match in my opinion. Had he not been down on that riding time point I think he takes a different approach in the final minute. I'll be honest, after the match I looked at Paul and told him I was pleased the way it unfolded. The month of February is going to help flip that score. Book it..

Barr is right there. Needs to rebound vs. Cardenas next week. It’s all about March!

Nationals are a foregone conclusion. The only drama will be the points record.
There should be added drama to how many finalists and champs PSU will have.
Additional drama will be if PSU sets the record for most points scored with the fewest non finalist AAs.
I am enjoying my team and their historical dominance run. That and the fact the Dallas Cowboys sucked again this year.

Ferrari is a special talent.

Anybody who thinks Gabe ducked Carter is a moron.

Barr will beat Buchanan at NCAAs.

1. Yes
2. True
3. Disagree.

I would like to see Ferrari wrestle someone else. To much edge tonight to tell anything.

I didn't think he was ever close to Starocci's legs. He is definitely a full sized 184. A lot of strength.

Ferrari essentially stalled until the Final minute of the match. Carter rode him pretty well - but Carter rides everyone well. As far as that goes, I thought Ferrari did pretty well on bottom, especially for a trFR - he still gave up RT-ADV, but did better than most do from bottom against Carter. In terms of the score...., it's a bit misleading as Ferrari was really never close to beating Carter and the score was only as low as it was because Ferrari was on wheels to the edge of the mat and refused to wrestle for all but the final minute (at that point, Carter was like - I'm done with this nonsense and just held him at bay to the horn).

The squawkeye morons claiming the stall calls weren't legit, are quite amusing - the Ref could have called him for more stalling, if anything (the Ref also bailed him out re: the TD on the edge - there is no "reaction time" in that situation and the TD is instantaneous in that situation. That should have been 3 imho.). Additionally, Ferrari attempting to wrestle with both feet several feet OB AFTER the Ref told him to move in-bounds toward center is without question an automatic stall call.

Ferrari was never close to taking Carter down and the score was misleading.... was not as close as score would indicate.

7 of the Top 12 at 197 are seniors. Barr will be just fine at 197. he's been nothing short of a revelation this season. why mess w/ that?
Obviously Barr is a solid 197. Just spit balling but (IF) Josh could get back down to 84 without suffering would you (Cael) push for that to make room for Connor Mirasola?

It will be won in the room. That’s where their real competition is. We’ll see over the summer and nto the fall. The guys figure it out on their own.

I'm assuming Gabe was either saying something or doing something and it was better that he was removed from the situation. I can't imagine that there is a reason in this world other than what I just typed why you wouldn't want the guy who is going to be wrestling in the post season, to not see an opponent live. Not only do you want him to see that opponent live, you get to watch someone who you train with every single day wrestle him. That would have been valuable information. Would love to hear Brands answer why Gabe was removed.
Clorby (whatever his name is) said on the other site that insults were being hurled at Gabe from the stands.

Maybe it was staying up late last night, but I just went to HR to read their match thread (I know, dumb idea!), and didn’t see one? Did their mods nuke it already?

I can summarize for you. PSU is stalling. PSU stall rides, more PSU stalling, replace Brands, steroids, more stalling, more steroids, more replace Brands.
