PSU - Ohio State 2020 Dual Thread

I thought Nevills was legit injured when he nearly took a knee after that one escape, Traub himself seemed surprised, then ran over to get what he thought might've been an easy takedown before Nevills recovered. Nevills had nothing the rest of the match.

3 (near) last second losses ... that need correction: 157, 149, and 285

Nah, not now at least. Really hasn't shown much to make you think he's going to make a run at AA this year. Doesn't have much of a shot, isn't it great rider, doesn't seem to know how to use his weight to his advantage... In his defense, he wasn't planning on being the starter this year heading into the season, so it is what it is at this point.
Bullsh$t, Seth got lazy. He will definitely AA. Huge learning experience just like what Brooks went through. Look at him now.

157 is certainly possible. 149 ain't happening and HWT doesn't matter, neither is scoring significant points at nationals.

Yeah his knee buckling was weird and at the very least had to spook him a bit.

He was overmatched, but that was the best Shak has looked all year. Hopefully he keeps improving and can make a little bit of noise.

Not sure why everyone is so tough on Seth. The guy was comfortably ahead, took injury time, then went to the ground untouched. Clearly behaving differently afterwords. Not worried at all about that match, am worried about the knee.

I've watched it a few times in slow motion. When he ran out of that escape he actually rolled his left ankle and that's why he dropped down. It just so happened to be down to his right knee. Maybe the ankle roll was because he was compensating for the right knee?

You laugh at a Penn State wrestler. Speaks volumes of you.
Not at the wrestler, at you. Open your eyes. I want nothing more than for Nevills to outplace Cass, but what have you seen to give you that confidence? This isn't an Aaron Brooks situation where he wrestled poorly in his first big match on the road. And Venz is no slouch at that. If you want to argue losing to Gas Tank Gary is a quality loss, I don't know what to tell you.

Just stop.

True to form, BTN promptly posted the matches from tonight's dual on YouTube. Less than 30 minutes after the dual! Here's Nick's dominating win over Pletcher (!!). The others are easy to find on BTN's Youtube channel too.

EDIT: 2 quick thoughts. (1) Crazy that Pletcher's only offensive points came in the first ~20 seconds, especially given that he's been a bonus point machine all year. (2) I'm grateful TaTo allowed this matchup to happen. Great Bout!

The bad news: there are some big holes in the lineup (especially relative to the best other teams)

The challenging news: the team needs to find a way to get 149, 157, 197, and 285 into the National Tournament. Which very likely means performing well above Big Ten seeds.

The good news: the team could possibly send five guys to the finals: RBY, Lee, VJ, Hall, and Brooks.

Hypothetical news: Cassar could have been the 6th possible guy in the finals, which would have made the team race oh so much more interesting

Hypothetically, maybe Conel, Shak, and Berge all had a shot at the finals, if their bodies were right.

Lee Pletcher lived up to the hype. I won't count out Pletcher in a rematch at B1Gs but he'll have to bring more than that because Lee is the same monster every time out.

The next 2 matches won’t be this close. It took Nick 2 1/2 minutes to figure Pletch out, then it was total domination! Nick will smoke him at Big Tens and NCAA’s!

Yep. Nick gave up a bit of sloppy TD at the start. Then total domination. The gap will widen from here on out

This is false about 149 and 285.

B10 will get 9 auto-qualifiers at 149. Verk is 5-4 in conference -- hard to see him being seeded below 10, which means at worst having to beat seed by 1, not "performing well above seed."

B10 will get 6 or 7 auto-qualifiers at 285. Snacks is 6-3 in conference, will likely be the 6 seed. Actually he could be the 5 seed -- despite tonight's loss, he still has a better conference record than Traub. To qualify, he merely needs to wrestle to seed.

It's a bit contrived perhaps, but I'm gonna call Brooks the Antietam Assassin*

he's just so dadgum professional, like a hired gun

*The Antietam Creek flows through Hagerstown

I like The Hub City (fill in the blank... Haven't quite come up with it yet). Maybe The Hub City Sniper for those nasty low singles. Hagerstown's moniker is Hub City

He is not lazy he is weak. That is not a knock against him. One year in strength training and he will Be so much better. Looks like in California he was used to just jumping on guys and they would cave. He is learning that he has to move, he has to get in shape and he needs to learn techniques of shooting. One year and I tell you he could be good next year.

Yeah. I’m actually amazed at how weak he is. And I don’t say that to be critical. But he needs to get stronger
