PSU - Ohio State 2020 Dual Thread

The Cassar injury killed the team race. I don't know if he'd win it again but he'd def be top three again easily. Plus he the favorite.
Shak is the spot I'm not understanding. Brooks shirt had to be pulled, I get that, plus he's ready to AA. I'm assuming Beard has to be beating shak in the room but they don't think he can AA or have as good of a shot like Brooks at least. Almost seems like a semi punt year if Shak is still the wrestler at 197 but that doesn't make since but Berge was back. Could he not of gotten a medical for this year?

RBY looked alright. Thought Nick Lee would win and he did. Joseph and definitely Hall had dominating and huge clutch bonus point wins.
Brooks keeps looking better. Oh forgot about Verk. That guy just knows how to keep it close l, and when you think of who he gets to wrestle with in the room, he's not going to face anyone better than any of the guys in there. Done rambling. Had a little liquid refreshments tonight and it's been a while lol.

Mixed thoughts. Our hammers are ready but we don't have anything else but our hammers. Very possible that we put 5 finalists on the mat at Nationals but literally get zero points from anyone else. Would that be enough? Maybe but maybe not.

Agree with this 110%. Even if we have five champions we get virtually nothing else and unless Iowa shits the bed we finish second.

F me. Quinn....never lose a match to a guy who's name starts w Q....never
I heard some Gramball kid tell some Kilgore guy the same thing.
Maybe some Young kid can tell some Hidley kid never lose to a kid with BB for initials.

This is false about 149 and 285.

B10 will get 9 auto-qualifiers at 149. Verk is 5-4 in conference -- hard to see him being seeded below 10, which means at worst having to beat seed by 1, not "performing well above seed."

B10 will get 6 or 7 auto-qualifiers at 285. Snacks is 6-3 in conference, will likely be the 6 seed. Actually he could be the 5 seed -- despite tonight's loss, he still has a better conference record than Traub. To qualify, he merely needs to wrestle to seed.

Seeds are so overrated. If you are good enough you win enough to qualify, if you aren't you don't, regardless of seed. What matters is how you are wrestling entering the tournament and how good you actually are. As fans we have a tendency to overvalue or undervalue and not see things as they truly are.

PS-Listening to JB on the ride home he is falling into the trap of overvaluing Verkleeren after the last two sudden victory losses.

Despite some excellent performances, going 5 wins and 5 losses made the team win somewhat unsatisfying.

Love to see 158, 197, and 285 take a step forward.

If you prefer: with 9 auto-qualifiers at 149, Verk will advance if he wrestles like a guy with a 5-4 conference record. With 6-7 auto-qualifiers at HWT, Snacks will advance if he wrestles like he has all year, and he would be a good at large candidate if he falls short.

That's not good enough at nationals, but is good enough to reach nationals.

Regarding Byers: isn't part of his job to find some reason to be optimistic about the athletes he covers?

Watched Berge for four years while in high school he has 3 weeks to get ready for big ten he will be fine and in better shape ..He will qualify for nationals and will win some matches there if he has no more problems with his head injury..Really I felt he would take the medical deal for this year..Have to give him lots of credit to come back after that serious head injury.

Call this nuts but I have crunched the numbers and the magic number for PSU is 11. As in we must be no further back than 11 points come Saturday night at Nationals. Here is how I see it.

125 Iowa gets 4 and it's 15.
133 must win and if rby can do it it's 11.
141 cut it to 7.
149 stays 7 when Lugo loses
157 holds
165 cenzo cuts it to 3
174 mark does it we go up 1
184 holds
197 holds
285 holds.
Remember they are going up on us during the day session on Saturday because of their depth, so really the key is Friday night we have it even or close to even because we can't get anything in the day medal round if our hammers all make finals

Pletcher looked to have possibly injured himself when he rolled and gave up his back. (Trust me I’m not saying that’s why he lost, Lee won fair and square). I just wonder what effect, if any that had on him? Just hope he’s healthy and not dinged moving forward.

Seth fell under his own weight late in the 3rd.

Something wasnt right.

I thought he looked completely off from when he took injury time. There was blood on his knee but something else happened there. That was injury time. If you look at his eyes, it almost looked like someone who took a head shot. Very odd look. And he looked completely lost from that point.

That was my thought when he escaped late and looked like he tripped....or more like when you stand up too quickly and have a head rush....he more wobbled than tripped. It was weird.

A) I completely agree about Berge and that he will succeed (barring medical of course). He was superior last night until he ran out of gas. It doesn’t take many matches to get going again and he’s an AA level wrestler. He will get by the middle of the pack at B10 and qualify.

B) Medical option has not been an option at any point this year even before he wrestled his very first match. I know the NCAA has granted 6th years more easily than in the past and maybe they would to Berge, but you don’t get to ask them ahead. By rule he doesn’t qualify. He did not lose 2 years to injury. His freshman year was a redshirt by choice. Wrestling v Lehigh or OSU did not change his status. That’s why he has always been on the “ if he’s healthy, he’s wrestling” list

Since 157 has had 2 weeks to work on his wrestling conditioning that had been atrophying since December, improvement should be easy to see. Assuming no reoccurring post match concussion symptoms.

Maybe the decision not to take a medical redshirt was Brady's. He may really want to wrestle in Minneapolis. That will be hos one and only shot at NCAAs in Minnesota.

When Mark had it wrapped up tight, it looked like he paused -- for the Ref to get into position -- then he pushed him to the mat!
I think that is exactly what happened. Hall was like, "OK , ref, I'll wait a moment for you to get over here so I can pin this guy."

Well he was ripped off vs kemmerer. Damn refs so slow except when they call stalling against us.

The next 2 matches won’t be this close. It took Nick 2 1/2 minutes to figure Pletch out, then it was total domination! Nick will smoke him at Big Tens and NCAA’s!

Agreed, Pletch had nothing for him after the TD.
The next meeting will be a MD IYAM

On the escape he rolled his left ankle, but there was no noticeable limp immediately thereafter when he walked back to center. I think we just have to chalk it up to what Byers described it as, a bad loss.
